Hello there,
This topic may sound odd which is true, but I cannot help and ask someone that may understand these kinds of things.
I really want to try and experience XP again on a virtual machine. Just so I can refresh my memories a little; But, since I do not want to commit anything malicious or pirate XP, I am here to ask if it is legal to install Windows XP for free (even if it is inactivated).
So, my question: Is it legal to install Windows XP for free for a Virtual Machine?
I tried searching on the internet for a clear answer but nothing seemed to be clear. Seeing YouTubers demonstrating XP and like a full overview really encourages me to try it. Anyways, I hope someone can answer this unimportant question!
Best Regards,
Aki
The answer to your question: NO
- An install in a VM is an installation of Windows and requires an activation with a legal product key.
- A Retail product key may be used as long as it is not being used for another installation.
One license = one install/activation.
- OEM preinstalled licenses/product keys (Dell, HP, etc.) are not to be used in VMs as that is not what they are designed for.
They were used for the installation/activation of Windows on the hardware the machine came from the manufacturers with, not in a VM.
