Hi, I bought a new SSD and I want to move windows from my old HDD, the problem is that my HDD where windows is installed has more storage than the SSD and is also full ie. 1.7TB/2TB whereas my SSD has 250GB. I want to know how I can move windows in my situation. Thanks in advance.

    Hello, how are you?

My name is Paloma B., I am very happy to be able to try to help you in the best possible way.

I understand that you would like to move Windows to your new SSD disk.

Unfortunately it is not possible to move only Windows, the ideal would be to clone the old disk to the new one, but as the storage sizes are different, it will not be possible.

In that case the only option is to do a clean install of Windows on the SSD and keep the HDD as a secondary disk on your computer for storage.

In this case I suggest that you follow the thread below to perform this procedure.

For this, you will first need to create a Windows installation USB, just follow the topic below. If necessary, you can create the USB on another computer.

After completing the creation of the USB, follow this thread, it is very detailed and will assist you in the clean installation of Windows.

***If you have any questions on how to start the USB installation, you can refer to this guide please.
