"A service installation section in this INF is invalid" error while installing a driver.

I'm trying to install Wi-fi driver for motherboard "Asus ROG Strix z690-f Wifi" and getting this error: A service installation section in this INF is invalid.

I tried to download different versions of drivers from manufacturer, tried to use tools (like Armoury Crate), tried to download installer from Intel itself, tried to remove drivers from INF/Drivers/DriverStorage folders, tried to install from folder/list; but I always get this error and cannot reinstall.

NB: it was working before, but I was investigating one problem and tried to downgrade driver, after that it is not working and I cannot reinstall it back (any version)

Question is: what "A service installation section in this INF is invalid" means and how to fix it?

Thank you in advance.

Ok, to sum it up, i found how to solve this problem. Thank you everyone for your answers and @Saltgrass in particular for pushing me in the right direction.

Problem was with missing oem#.inf files. So, if any one will have any issues with driver installation, steps are following:

    1. Uninstall device
    2. Run SFC /SCANNOW command to fix corrupted files
    3. Reboot
    4. Install drivers

Thank you very much for reply!

I have tried to fully clean drivers with DriverStoreExplorer, it really removed any traces. Went offline, uninstall, cleaned drivers, reboot, installed drivers from scratch and still get the same "section in this INF is invalid" error. I think something broken in the area outside the driver, and driver installation is ok. If there were some way to reset device (in registry? in system files?) without formatting disk and installing windows over again.

I have found one thing: in registy drivers refer to oem47.inf and oem44.inf as owners, but they are missing from INF folder.

Maybe this is connected to the problem. Is there anyway to reinstall them?

I also tried to remove all Intel Wi-fi drivers from INF, drivers and DriverStore folders, but it doesn't help to do a clean install.

I need some deep technical information, like mending Registry or fix some system files or a way to do a forceful installation, I'm just guessing.

If you could provide me any further information on this issue, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you in advance, looking forward to hearing from you.

    Sergey.

That driver install.inf is corrupted or not valid for installation, so try to install another driver
