Windows 11 Regedit Authorization

Environment - LEnovo ThinPad L15 GenI, Model 20U8. Windows 11 "upgrade" from preinstallled Win10, reasonable fresh install with minimal tinkering (mainly just installing ClassicShell because I don't like the interfaces XP and later. I run 2K two-column.)

Question: I am trying to edit a couple of registry values to crank my screeen brighness up to a useful level, since the hardware keys won't take it up past about 25% or so (plugged in!) and roughly the same on battery. I'd like to get 100% on AC and 65-75% on battery (I usually have a USB-C 20.8 A-h pack in my bag, and a 12V "hot" USB-C charger in my truck, so I'm not overly worried about battery life - and I can always create a high-efficiency battery plan anyhow.)

This machine is on a home network, my account has administrator privileges, and I am effectively the network administrator. I am running Regedit as administrator. When I go to create the 32-bit DWORD I need, I get "Cannot create value. Error writing to registry."

I think this is an authorization error (I've run into stupid stuff like this before with other programmes,) so could anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

Thank you for the links, I'll check 'em out. I was under the impression that this was a Windows thing, from what I'd seen to date, so I started here. And I did go through and update my drivers from Lenovo support - last week (it's a "quarterly audit" thing I do.)

Looks like that first link took me where I wanted to go rather easily - thank you, again. I'll check the others out anyhow, just in case there's another approach that I could use in another way...

Thank you - you may consider it resolved. I now know how to deal with the issue manually, and how to reset the security in the Registry keys should I decide to edit again (I haven't had to tinker with a Registry since the days of Win98, which tells you how far back I go...) I made .pdfs out of several of the links, so that I could retain the information locally.
