Windows 11, Onedrive and Error code 0x8007017C

I have saved my Windows 11 Customised Ribbons and Quick Access toolbars for Excel and Word in OneDrive. When I try to import them after reinstalling Windows 11, I receive Error code 0x8007017C and the message that they are not available. I have tried the solution for this error code in a previous thread relating to Windows 10 -- Windows key+R and %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset -- but I receive the message that Windows can't find this command. The alternative solution given in the thread related to Windows 10 -- to unlink OneDrive from the computer by right-clicking on the OneDrive icon and selecting Unlink -- also does not work, because right-clicking on the OneDrive icon does not include the option to select Unlink. How do I overcome the error code in Windows 11?

Hi Harold. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, specializing in Installation, Performance, Troubleshooting and Activation, here to help you.

Unlink OneDrive is not on the right click Settings menu from System Tray icon, you have to open Accounts tab on the Settings box to reach it.

I'll give you all working fixes for OneDrive so that hopefully something will work.

    1. Try resetting OneDrive here:

    https://www.thewindowsclub.com/reset-onedrive-i...

    1. Right click OneDrive cloud icon in System Tray at right end of Task Bar, choose Settings, then Accounts tab, then Unlink OneDrive. Restart PC, go into Start Menu to open OneDrive sign in again to see if it stabilizes. Tutorial here: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/36246-link-...
    2. If not then Uninstall OneDrive in Settings > Apps > Apps & Features > Microsoft OneDrive. Restart PC.

Then reinstall OneDrive from a fresh download here:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us//microsoft-365/...

If you prefer the OneDrive Store app then you can re-register it from Option 2 here: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3175-apps-re...

    1. Other fixes to try for OneDrive if the others don't work:

    1. If nothing here works then you can Contact Microsoft Support at https://support.microsoft.com/contactus. Explain the problem to the Virtual Assistant and keep asking for an agent, to get chat or a call back on week days.

If you want to report this to Microsoft use the Feedback Hub app in Start Menu where developers are tasked to process consumer feedback. They will not even see it here. This is a tech forums staffed mostly by volunteers trying to help others with your problems.

OneDrive may have made settings changes without your knowledge. Review these Settings to make sure you are informed about them and then decide:

If you want to keep your Documents, Pictures and/or Desktop folders sync'd in OneDrive you can use Folder Protection/Backup in OneDrive settings as shown here: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/116029-turn...

Sync & Backup all User folders: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

If you want to save space and keep your files in the cloud with only links on the hard drive to download them, use Files on Demand here:

    https://www.pcworld.com/article/3233488/windows...

If you're turning off Files on Demand, make sure to let the files download back to the PC before turning off Files on Demand.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. If you will wait to rate my post, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
