Speeding up Windows 10 !

I would just like to say out of all the little tweeks and adjustments, this seems to have made a big impact ! Like most people I have tried most things to "Speed up Windows 10". I have read so many web sites and tried so many things with very little responce or noticebly difference. This morning I went into System properties and it was set to "Best apperance" I changed it to "Best performance" which had a immediate effect. It was a little later on when I realised my Video files had no thumbnails and also I could not "Print screen". The price I had to pay for "speed up" I thought ! I overcome this by going back into System properties and ticking two boxes and set to "Custom"I guess it's a case of tweeking to your own liking ! It certainly as made my laptop more responsive and well worth doing. I guess over the next few days I will find other things not working, it will be a case of "Ticking another box" in System properties

    Hello BRIAN, welcome to the Microsoft community, I'll be happy to help you today;

    I understand that you have tweaked Windows for better performance;

    Your files didn't have thumbnails because you wish you had turned off the "Show thumbnails instead of icons" option;

    There are other ways to make your laptop faster;

    Do a clean boot;

    Press together the keys: Ctrl + Shift + ESc to access the Task Manager;

    Click Start and disable all programs that start with the system;

    Do a disk cleanup;

    Press Windows key + R and type: cleanmgr press Enter;

    Click on Clean system files and wait for the files to load;

    Select all files and click OK to delete them;

    Restart your PC and check if your PC performance has improved;

    Hope this helps, see you soon!

    Hi LuizScruz, thanks for replying to my comments. I have done all what you suggest and much more every day. I normally start with checking "updates", clearing junk files, check when last defragged and often do it manually, clear Edge browser history and cookies and occassionaaly reset it ! I use "Scannow" probably once a week, occasssionally clear prefetch files despite some sites saying not too, it just goes on and on ha. I often reset apps if they are not running smoothly and occasionally reset the router ! My job before retiring was a maintenance superintendat so it just comes natural to me to "Look after things" !! What I did today made the laptop much more responsive. It is just a case of finding out which things you can do without !

    Regards Brian
