Windows 11 shuts down instead of going to sleep

I have installed Windows 11 on a brand new Dell G5 tower PC. Ever since the upgrade from Windows 10 I find that the PC shuts down unexpectedly instead of going to sleep. It doesn't do this every time the PC goes to sleep, but does so at least once or twice daily.

I think I solved this. I recently bought a computer with Windows 11 preinstalled, so going back to Windows 10 wasn't an option for me. What's happening is, after 45 minutes, the computer automatically switches to hibernation. I noticed it because I stopped playing a game to have some food and watch a show and, while I was watching the show, my LEDs all turned back on and then, after a moment, turned back off. When I went to wake up the computer, it acted like it had been shut down, as hibernation does. It took some digging, but I found the cause of this. There's a setting that makes this happen hidden in the "Control" program. To fix this, this is what I did:

-Windows key + R and run "control"

-Hardware and Sound > Power Options

-Next to whichever plan you have selected: Change plan settings >Change advanced power settings

-Click on the plus sign next to "Sleep" on the list of stuff that comes up

-On the sub-list, click on "Hibernate after"

-It's set to 45 minutes, change it to Never

I did this and then successfully had my computer on sleep for close to 2 hours without it switching to hibernation. There's also a setting on that for "Turn off hard disk after" and it's automatically set to 20 minutes. I don't know if that makes a difference, but I changed mine to Never. I don't like some person who programs this OS thinking they know better than me when my computer should do things like sleep, hibernate and shut down. I pay my electric bill, I'll decide when I want power saving to kick in.

I have the same issue, in that it is intermittent. I was having a play around and noticed a setting..

Win+R then type 'control' - this will open the control panel

Select 'Hardware and Sound' then 'Power Options'.

On the left hand side select 'Change when the computer sleeps'.

Then click on 'Change advanced power settings' - another pop up box will appear.

The first 'option' says 'Hard disk' this opens up to say 'Turn off hard disk after xx mins'. Mine said 30 mins (I assume default?)

I've changed this to say 1500 (since I shutdown daily), then click 'Apply' and 'ok'

Not sure if this will work (I have literally found this setting as I was searching for help!) but thought i would note it down now - in case someone is beyond frustrated.

    Hope this helps!

I had the same issue. I was able to fix the problem by simply updating the Drivers.

For me i used the tool "Fujitsu Desk update" but it is different on every manufacturer.

    Manufacturer Driver tool
    Dell https://www.dell.com/support/home/de-de
    Funjitsu https://support.ts.fujitsu.com/deskupdate/index.asp?ld=de
    HP https://support.hp.com/de-de/drivers
    Acer https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers
    Lenovo https://support.lenovo.com/jp/de/solutions/ht003029

If your PC manufacturer is not on the list just look up the manufacturer name on google and add "driver update tool".

    Update 19.01.2022:
After a while i got the issue again. The next thing i did was temporally disabling sleep in windows 11 completely. You can find the option by pressing "Windows + r" type "control" and press enter. Then go to Hardware and Sound > Power options > Edit Plan Setting. Change the option "15 minutes" in Put the computer to sleep to "never".

I am also facing the same problem after receiving recent update.
Whenever I put my laptop on Sleep Mode and open it again, it starts from beginning instead of waking up from where I left it on Sleep.
All my opened apps and ongoing work files get closed due to unexpected shutdown.
It's too annoying... It never happened before...
