    Hi Jim_615,

Thanks for your post in Microsoft Community.

I'm Mosken, I do apologize for the inconvenience that you're experiencing right now, let me help you sort things out.

According to your description, I knew that you want to change the guest account name because your administrator account name is the same as the guest account name, so it's difficult to distinguish which account you log in. If my understanding is wrong, please correct me in the reply.

Open "Run" by "Win" logo key + "R", enter "Control", open "Control Panel", and enter the same path according to the following picture.

If you are logged in as an administrator, you can select "Manage another account" on this page, then select the guest account and change the name.

If you are logged in as a guest account, just click "Change your account name" to change your name.

I wish the above will be helpful to you. Please feel free to let me know how it goes, and I will do my best to help you.

    Best Regards,

Mosken - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist

    Hi Jim_615,

You can try the following two solutions:

    1. "Win" logo key + "X" > "Computer Management" > "Computer Management(Local)" > "System Tools" > "Local Users and Groups" > "Users", right-click the account you want to rename > "Rename" ", enter new account name, and restart the system. (The premise of this solution is that your system needs to be a professional version or above, the home version does not have this option.)
    2. "Win" logo key + "R" to open "Run", enter "netplwiz", press Enter, on the opened page, double-click the account you want to rename, and then enter the new user name in the "User name" column, and "ok", then restart the system.

    Best Regards,

I believe the solution to this problem is over my meager computer skills.  If there is not an easier solution, I will live with the existing problem and I will continue on.  Thank you very much for bearing with me.  Jim_615

Solution #1 seemed to work for a while. I implemented solution #1 on the administrator account and I restarted the system after renaming the guest user. The guest username was correctly changed to the new name. I logged on the guest user account and then returned to the administrator account. When I logged back in the administrator account, the name of the guest account reverted to the original name.

I tried solution #2, but received an error message of "access denied" when I changed the name.

I do have the Windows 10 Pro Version.

    Do you have another solution?

Thank you Mosken, but my windows 10 computer does not have the option to change the account name. I have the option to only "change the account type" or "delete the account". Do you have another alternative? Thank you. Jim_615
