I currently have 8 HID Keyboard Devices under the keyboards tab in Device Manager on my Gateway Laptop and recently when I press 1, it comes out as 12, press 2 comes out 12, press S comes out AS, press A comes out AS etc. Today the A and S where just being pressed without anything touch keyboard in this manner: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa and ssssssssssssssssss over and over. Please help, what do I need to do?

    Hi Samantha,

I am Sumit here to assist you with this question.

Multiple keyboards are normal inside the device manager.

It sounds like your laptop needs a keyboard replacement as the symptoms suggest.

    • Press Win+I Keys to open Settings.

    • Go to Update and Security>Troubleshoot menu.

    • Look for Keyboard trouble-shooter. Run it and see if it finds issues.

    • When done, restart to see if the problem is resolved.

    If that does not help,

    • Right click Start.

    • Choose Device Manager

    • Expand Keyboard.

    • Right click the keyboard

    • Select Uninstall

    • Restart your computer.

    • If it is a wired keyboard, try connecting it to a different USB port or another computer.

    • If it is a laptop Keyboard, try connecting a spare keyboard to isolate if it is a hardware problem.

You can test your keyboard using keyboard tester website.

    • Also make sure the chipset and BIOS is updated.
