I have recently bought a hdmi-vga adaptor for my Lenovo Ideapad 3 to connect it to my old IIYAMA ProLite B1906S monitor. I have tried to update the drivers and all that stuff i have found on the internet, even on the microsoft support site, but it still doesn`t recognise the monitor. I tried to connect the monitor to a Windows 10 laptop and it works. I copied the monitor.sys driver from that laptop on the Windows 11 one but it still doesnt works with the monitor.

Any help?

    Hi DariusXerxes,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I understand that you have encountered the problem that you can't connect the notebook and the monitor using the HDMI-VGA converter.

From your description, your computer does not recognize this monitor, but the Windows 10 device can be used normally, you can click win+X, select "device manager", and see if there is "other devices" or similar unrecognized device of. If the device is not recognized, the problem is that the appropriate driver is missing. You can right-click on the device and select Properties >> Drivers >> Update Driver Now.

If Windows cannot automatically install the driver, you can check your graphics card model and go to the corresponding manufacturer's website to download the official driver provided by them to install it.

If the device appears in "Monitor", then your notebook has recognized the monitor, but may not be able to use the monitor due to compatibility issues.

If no device appears in the device manager, and you are using Windows 11, then the problem may be that Windows 11 is not compatible with this adapter or monitor, it is recommended that you try a different adapter.

Please feel free to let me know how it goes.

As far as I understand the Lenovo Ideapad 3 is running Windows 10 in S mode. To improve security and performance, Windows 10 in S mode can only run apps from the Microsoft Store, which may be why your device recognizes the display but cannot install drivers.

Also thanks to the volunteer moderator RAJU.MSC.MATHEMATICS **** for his reply, which is probably correct.

If you want to try if this device is not supported, you can try to exit S mode. Note, once S Mode is out, you won't be able to re-enter it by anyway.

    The exit method is:

    1. On a PC running Windows 10 in S mode, open Settings > Update & Security > Activation.
    2. Find the "Switch to Windows 10 Home" or "Switch to Windows 10 Pro" section and select the "Go to Microsoft Store" link.

    Notice:

Do not select the link under "Upgrade your version of Windows." It's a different process that will keep you in S mode.

From the page that appears in the Microsoft Store ("Exit S Mode" or similar), select the "Get" button. Once this is confirmed, apps can be installed from outside the Microsoft Store.

few old monitor drivers are compatible with Windows XP or Windows 7, not compatible with windows 11. So connecting old monitor is now not possible with HDMI -VGA adapter cable

Later edit: i have tried to connect the old monitor to another laptop with same specifications ( intel graphics hd 505) and it works very well. I dont know why my laptop still doesnt recognize it.
