Hi guys.

Is there any way I can cast from my Laptop to my TV?

When I click cast on my laptop, it recognizes the TV, it connects to the TV, but the TV goes black.

Anyone have any tips/ideas. All drivers on the Laptop are up to date as far as I know. Running Windows 11.

    Hi ChristopherWilmore,

Thanks for querying in Microsoft Community.

It sounds like the TV screen goes black when you cast from the laptop to the TV. This may be caused by the resolution on your laptop. Kindly try the method below to see if the problem can be solved.

    1. In the search box on the taskbar, enter screen resolution, then select Change the screen resolutionfrom the list of results.
    2. Under Resolution, select the arrow, then select the resolution that says Recommended. (The highest resolution is the recommended resolution on the device.)
    3. Select Apply.

Generally, the following ways are possible for one to project from one's laptop to the TV.

    1. Casting with an HDMI Cable.

If your laptop has an HDMI port, then it’s as simple as plugging the cable into your laptop and an open HDMI port on your TV.  Then you just need to switch the TV input source to the correct HDMI input.

Some laptops don’t have a standard HDMI port. In fact, many newer laptops don’t. In this case, to use a wired connection, you will need an HDMI adapter that is compatible with the port on your laptop. To begin casting, plug the adapter into your laptop’s port, then connect the HDMI cable both to the HDMI adapter on your laptop and to the TV.

    1. Casting with a Wireless Display Adapter. It includes Microsoft Miracast, Chromecast or Wi-Fi Dongle, AirPlay.

A wireless display adapter is typically a small device that plugs into the HDMI port of your TV. It acts as a receiver to the signal being transmitted wirelessly from your laptop. What’s critical is that the wireless display technology in the laptop must be compatible with the technology in the wireless display adapter.

    1. Casting with a Wireless Video HDMI Kit.

Wireless video display kits allow you to cast a laptop screen to a TV without a wired connection. These kits often include everything you need for casting and offer an easy plug-and-play set-up.
