Windows is not up to date, but no updates appear

My Windows Update currently says: "You're not up to date. Your device is missing important security and quality fixes." But when I click "Check for updates" it loads for a minute and then nothing happens. There are no updates available, so why does it still say it is not up to date? I'm fairly certain it DOES need updates, but I don't know how to get them with Windows Update not working. I have reset my computer many times and the troubleshooter finds no issues.

Why should I trust running files from a third party? I came to Microsoft for a Microsoft solution.

Thanks for your help! The following image is what Windows Update looks like. When I click "Check for updates" it loads for a moment and then nothing happens. It goes back to looking like this. It's really strange!

winver says my windows version is Version 2004 (OD Build 19041.1415). It is Windows 10 Home. I tried what you suggested and that did not resolve to problem. Please let me know if you have additional suggestions. I feel like I've tried everything! Thank you for your help!
