Mouse cursor speed suddenly reduced

After this week's Windows 10 update, my mouse cursor speed was suddenly reduced. I went into Settings, and increased the speed from 10 to 20, and now it appears to be working normally. But why the change? And at some point in the future, will my mouse begin working super-fast, requiring me to reduce the speed setting back to 10?

    Hello silverlightbill, welcome to the Microsoft community, I'll be happy to help you today;

    It may be that during the update some settings have been reset to default;

    There is a setting that, if enabled, will slow down the mouse cursor;

    Click on the Windows search bar and type: mouse

    In the mouse search result, click Mouse Settings;

    Click Additional Mouse Options;

    Click the Pointer Options tab and turn off the "Enhance Mouse Precision" option;

    Click Apply;

    Check if the cursor speed has become faster;

    Hope this helps, see you soon!

    This is getting annoying. Even after the steps mentioned above, the cursor speed got super-slow. (To get across the screen was taking 7 to 9 movements of the full width of the mouse pad.) But it returned to normal in some apps, then got slow again when I left those apps. I tried replacing the batteries -- no difference. Then I looked at the mouse cursor speed, which I had left set to 16, and found that Windows (or some virus) had been reduced it to 8. I increased it to 20. Back to normal cursor speed. I left the computer for a couple of hours, and returned to find that the cursor speed was now super-fast. Much too fast. I set the cursor speed back to 12, and now it seems normal again.

    Help!!

    Yes, that helped. But when I turned off the Enhance Pointer Precision, and set the cursor speed back to 10, the cursor was still significantly slower than before the update. When I gradually increased it up to 16, that approximates the cursor speed that I used to have before the update, with the cursor speed set to 10.

    I appreciate you telling me how to get additional flexibility, but the slowdown is still a mystery.

    Btw, I've been doing Windows development since 1995, and I posted my first question to this forum in the Silverlight time frame (perhaps 2006 or 2007), hence my screen name.

    Luiz, I have a Logitech M310 (cordless optical) mouse. At your suggestion, I tried the Logitech web site, looking for a driver update. Finding a driver update on their web site is impossible, and their customer support is negligible. (They offer 24/7 chat, but presumably due to the pandemic, it isn't manned.) I downloaded and installed their SetPoint app, which didn't appear to help. Then I downloaded and installed their Options app, which appeared to fix the problem, but I don't know why. Both of these apps allow the user to adjust mouse settings, but I didn't use them for that. I can only conclude that the Options download included a driver update.

    Anyway, my mouse cursor is back to normal speed, and I credit you for getting me on the right track, even if I don't know how or why.

    To add to the mystery, after my second post in this thread (i.e., while I was dealing with Logitech), the problem returned with a vengeance. Really slow cursor speed, even with the Enhance Pointer Precision turned off. But temporarily while I was navigating the Logitech web site, the mouse cursor returned to normal (or near-normal) speed. When I left their web site, back to slow cursor speed. Sounds like magic.

    Dear silverlightbill,it really is a mystery;

    What is the mouse model and manufacturer?

    Check the manufacturer's website for driver updates for your mouse model;

    Hope this helps, see you soon!
