Make sure to disable battery save mode on your laptop. I had the exact same problem and this solved it.
Indexing Keeps Pausing
Hello, I have searched multiple forums and none have helped so I’m here. I’m attempting to reminded my laptop and upon hitting rebuild it will index for half a second then say “indexing is paused”.
The pause button within indexing options is greyed out and the only thing that starts the indexing again is if I go to services and restart the windows search service. The caveat to that however is that it will only work for about a half second then still say “indexing is paused” only to index 100 files or so each time I restart the service. I disabled my antivirus and anti malware, I attempted to restart my computer and try again, insert the service to start automatically, I have even enabled the service in safe mode and tried that, none of which have worked. I also attempted the troubleshooting wizard within indexing options as well. The only thing that seems to start up the indexing process is restarting the service but I have to keep restarting every two seconds or so because indexing pauses immediately. I have also ran SFC and CHKDSK to no avail.

Are there any changes made on the computer before the issue started?
Try to install the latest updates on your windows and check if it helps. Installing latest update sometime helps fixing any on-going issues with windows. To install latest updates, kindly follow the steps below
Press windows key + I
Click on Updates & Security
Click on Check for updates
Let windows fetch all available updates for your windows

Restart the computer to install pending updates for your windows
Check if the same issue appears
If the above method did not fix the issue, kindly try to create a new user profile and check if the same issue appears on the new user. This will help determine if the issue is profile specific or if the issue occurs on any user profile that you have.
To create new user profile, please follow the steps below
- Open the Settings by pressing the Windows Key + I
- Click on Accounts
- In the left pane menu, click on Family & Other Users
- Under other users, click on add someone else on this PC
- By default, it will going to ask you to sign in using a Microsoft account, click on the link below which says I don't have this person's sign in information
- Click on Add a user without Microsoft account
- Fill out a username and click next until completion.
Sign out to the current user and sign in on the new user profile.
Check if everything works fine on the new user.
Hope this will help and have a bless day!
Thanks.
