HDR cant be turned on with dual monitors. help please

I Recently bought a HDR capable monitor (electriQ 28" 4K UHD EIQ-284KMB-HDR). I had some difficulty with hdr, but in the end, downloaded VP9 Video Extension to get HDR to work. Since then, when i have HDR enabled on my monitor, my settings are forced to "show only on 1" where 1 is my new 4k monitor. when looking art display settings, my second monitor is tiny, like 1/4th the size of the 1. If i try to change to "extend these displays", either HDR gets turned off, or the 2nd monitor just doesnt turn on. When HDR is turned off and both monitors are on, i cant turn HDR on as it makes the screens flicker then turn back on with HDR still off and games and apps showing no support for HDR.

I have all my drivers up to date both through a 3rd party app and windows update. This is on windows 11

GPU: Rx 550

CPU: i7 9700k

mobo: z390 Gaming Plus

Ram: 3700 MHZ ddr4

I hope this is enough information to help me. I have searched all ovet the internet and it just the stupid things such as restart pc, update drivers, make sure im clicking the right thing etc.

I have the same problem. I didn't have it with the earlier AMD drivers, but the latest drivers broke the ability to have my main monitor as HDR and my side monitor as SDR. If I enable extended display, the display settings won't let me turn HDR on. So either I have to have both monitors in SDR, or use my main monitor in HDR and get nothing on my secondary. With all of the various updates I don't know if the problem sits with MS or AMD.

Try to downgrade your GPU driver to version 21.8.2 (downloadable here), it did the trick for me.

I have the same problem I have a 4k oled tv and a benq g2222hdl and I can't turn on the HDR if I want to use both of them. Just SDR on both or HDR on the oled tv but the benq will remain black.

    Hi, thanks for this.

im failry certain my gpu can handle this as i have used dual monitor before (not4k tho which i understand is more demanding), it is basically overclocked to the max of what software will safely permit me, and with the 4k monitor and 1k monitor it works perfectly fine, except for the fact i cant utilise HDR features.

I had the monitors hdr setting on auto, but tried what you suggested with it set on max (i assume meaning always on) and no difference.

Is nit the same as cd/m^2? if so, then the screen i am using has "typical" of 250 cd/m2 but on the webstie (https://displaysolutions.samsung.com/monitor/detail/760/S24E650PL ) it does not state the max brightness (therefore im assuming it doesnt). does this mean hdr just wont work with both? even if one screen isnt actually using the feature.

I have also now tried to fix this by using a different monitor (which i have also done what you suggested and to no avail) and neither have 300 cd/m2 or higher brightness.

    Hi ,KamilLeocadie Olsen

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Thank you for your detailed description, usually 4k HDR 10bit, this kind of generally drives one display without problems, and at the rx550 level, 2 displays are estimated to be a little stressful.

Maybe you can try the button at the bottom right of the display to switch the output mode of the screen to HDR, and then reconnect the two displays to see the effect.

In addition, if the screen ratios of the two displays are different, it may also cause abnormal use.

And it is recommended that you check whether the peak brightness of the second screen exceeds 300nit, and it may fail to turn on if it is less than 300nit.
