HELP! Was moving around and accidentally merged user folder and documents folder

So I was moving around some folders since I recently installed a storage drive and from some errors I was trying to correct with program file paths accidentally merged my user folder and documents folder. I have managed to restore the documents folder however my user folder still shows as documents as my user folder and when I select documents on the quick access bar it still goes to my user folder since the actual documents folder is within my user folder named 'documents'

how do I restore my user folder to my name? Any help is appreciated!

I'm having the very same problem and no location tab is showing up. Remapping the Documents folder location is not solving the problem. Show me how to do this through the registry instead.

Let me explain, better for you. Documents, Music, Videos, Desktop, are libraries that are assigned to folders, you assigned the Documents library to your user folder, your Documents folder is there, but is not the system documents location.

Your user folder is still there, but now you see it as Documents because you assigned the Documents library to this folder, instead of User Folder\Documents.

Do the steps I told you in the comment above to fix this and be able to see your user folder again.

You need to assign to another folder first because the system won't let it change it to a folder inside the present library.

I hope it is clear now. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

    Hi Adon99,

I'm Rodrigo and I will help you.

To fix this, right-click the Documents folder > Properties > Location tab, change the location of the documents (Create a folder on your C: and select this folder, but this is only temporary). When prompted to move the files, select No. Now you will see your user folder again.

Create the Documents folder where you want it to be, right-click the Documents folder you created on C: > Properties > Location tab, select the Documents folder you just created (The definitive one).

This process messed up other libraries, you will need to change their locations too, soo you will need to fix it, just right-click the library > Properties > Location tab, change the location to the right one.

    E.g: Music - C:\Users\UserFolder\Music

       Desktop - C:\Users\UserFolder\Desktop

       Video - C:\Users\UserFolder\Video

       Downloads - C:\Users\UserFolder\Downloads

Do not select your user folder or the root of a drive as a library location, otherwise, you will mess up them again. Always create the folder or use an existing folder on these locations.

After this, you can manually move the files from your user folder to the right documents folder.

Oh I forgot to mention one more thing, I created a 'fix folder' in the main Local Disk (C:) if you will and changed the documents location to there.

However while it sort of worked now I no longer have location tab in my documents folder when I open the properties as well as that 'fix folder' disappeared causing my documents folder to disappear with it.

I was able to correct this by resetting back to how it was before trying the fix, are you sure there isn't any other way to restore the folder? because as I said doing it that way seems to have cause some sort of issue that has now removed my ability to change the document folder location

See the thing is that my documents folder IS where I want it to be. Just that my user folder is currently mimicing a Documents folder due to the accidental merge. (as shown in the photo attached)

As I mentioned originally, I had already restored my documents folder. My music, video and downloads folder are stored on a different disk altogether so those folders are fine.

At this point all i'm trying to figure out is how I restore my user folder back from registering as a documents folder

for clarification of the image, the properties window is coresponding to the user folder open in the background which as can be seen in the address bar is showing 'documents' however if I were to click on the addresss bar it would show the same directory at C:\Users\Adonis. The Documents folder highlighted is the correct document folder which is perfectly fine
