I recently started college at SNHU and I purchased a HP EliteBook laptop from a pawn shop for my homework assignments. It has windows 10 installed but every time i try to activate it there's a message in red letters stating" We can’t activate Windows on this device as we can’t connect to your organization's activation server. Make sure you’re connected to your organization's network and try again. If you continue having problems with activation, contact your organization's support person. Error code: 0x8007232B". What does this mean? Any helpful suggestions will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi NieshaLomax96,

Yes, and the Windows was activated using a Volume license which is commonly used by companies and schools.

Since it is a branded laptop, it is usually activated with an OEM license. Kindly follow the steps below and see if there is an OEM license embedded on its motherboard.

    Method 1.

    1. Open the command prompt and run it with administrator rights.
    2. Type or copy-paste the below command in the command prompt

    wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey

    1. The license key that has 25 characters should appear.
    2. If the license key did not appear kindly proceed to method 2.

    Method 2.

    1. Go to the Microsoft store. Search for ShowKeyPlus in the MS store search bar
    2. Download and Install the app.
    3. Once done, run the app. The app will display the license key installed on the PC

    Best regards,

    Van

Hi, I am Van. I'll be glad to assist you today.

This error commonly means that you are using a license key managed by an organization, in which it has expired and unable to access to activation host to reactivate the Windows on the device. Or the PC was activated using an illegal activation tool.

To verify kindly perform the steps below.

    1. Click the start menu, then type CMD. Right-click the command prompt then select run as administrator.
    2. In the command prompt type or copy-paste the command below

    slmgr /dlv

    1. Send us the result of what it says on the description or product key channel from the pop-up window.

For home personal use, we commonly use an OEM or a Retail license. Because this license does not have an expiration.

    Best regards,

    Van

I saw the screenshot you posted and noticed that the edition is Enterprise, so one of the previous owners had used it for business purposes and activated using their organization's portal. No it's not stolen, but if you don't have a legal license, you can buy it from the Microsoft Store. I'd recommend downgrading to a home-user edition like Home or Pro, but it's up to you to decide that.

It means that device was activated using Volume License which is legal only for organizations.

What is the history of the device? Was it taken into a repair shop recently for repairs? Is it a second-hand device?

It is a second hand device. I do not know how many owners there was before me. But the product key is removed off of the computer itself as well.
