Microphone isn't working on SOME desktop apps

Hi, I regularly use Canva and Loom for screen recording/video presentations. I don't use a headset, so it's just me and my laptop. I tried to record yesterday and unfortunately, I couldn't hear the recording. If I max the volume, I would hear a faint, static sound. Here's the thing: I tried recording in zoom, audio was fine. I could hear myself in zoom, as well as in skype and viber desktop app. So it's just in Loom and Canva that the mic isn't working. I also have a Loom chrome extension, same problem. I even uninstalled the google chrome. Nothing changed. I opened Canva using Microsoft Edge, still didnt hear the audio recording. I tried using a headset, didn't work either.

Could it be a driver issue if only those two apps were affected? I opened my Canva in another laptop, it worked perfectly fine.

Your advice would be highly appreciated.

    Good Day Janice,

My name is Carlo, I am also using Windows 10 pc and community member like you. Let us work together to sort this out.

Here's the steps you can try.

    -Press Windows key + X

    -Go to Settings

    -Click Update and Security

    -Click Troubleshooter then Additional troubleshooter.

-Look for Speech and run the troubleshooter.

Connect the Headset and proceed with these steps.

    -Go to Control Panel

-In Control Panel, select Large icons from the View by drop down menu.

    -Select Sound.

    -Select the Recording tab

-Right click the Microphone and click Enable.

-Right-click it again and select Set as Default Device.

-Right click Microphone and click Properties.

-Click the Levels tab, then drag the volume slider towards the largest value.

    -Click OK

    -Click Advance Tab

-Uncheck the box to "Allow application to take exclusive control on this device"

Turn on Microphone Privacy in each app.

Select Start > Settings > Privacy > Microphone . In Allow access to the microphone on this device, select Change and make sure Microphone access for this device is turned on.

Then, allow apps access to your microphone.

Once you've allowed microphone access to your apps, you can change the settings for each app.

    Restart once done and check.

If issue persists, try to uninstall the Canva and re-install it back and check the mic.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

    Sincerely,

    Carlo T.

Thank you so much!! It's working now on Loom and Canva! I also had to download and install the Realtek audio driver. For some weird reason, it disappeared. I saw the red x mark on the sound icon after troubleshooting the microphone. Perhaps there was an update that messed with my computer audio. Again, thank you!
