Brightness and frequency

Hello, I have two small questions about settings on Windows 11 that I can't change or understand.

  • I can't change my brightness. I mean, by default, on mains or battery, it is at 76. When I lower it to 75, it automatically goes back up to 76.

When I set it to 74, it stays at 74, so I can set it to 75. But every time I start it up, everything is forgotten.

I would like to keep my brightness at 75.

I unchecked the box that asks to help improve the battery by optimizing the displayed content and brightness.

  • My laptop manages 144 Hz.

In active signal mode it is in 1920x1080 144,03 Hz.

In desktop mode it is in 1920x1080 60 Hz or 144 Hz. It changes itself. And I would like to stay in 144 Hz.

So every other time I switch back to 60 Hz and I have to set the 144 Hz manually.

I have pictures if needed but apparently we can't put files.

    Hi Natpars,

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

It seems that the lightness and frequency setting on your Windows 11 will automatically return to the default value. Sorry for the inconvenience you are facing. I understand the frustration when the thing won't work the way we want them to.

The solutions below can be tried to troubleshoot.

    1. Update your Windows 11 to the latest version.

Select the Start button, then Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update > Check for updates. If an update is available, select Install Now.

    1. Change the Registry key.

Press the Windows key + R > Enter: regedit and click OK > Locate the Registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet001ControlClass {4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318 > Expand the item > Double-click to open the KMD_EnableBrightnessInterface2 in 0000 and 0001 > Change the the value on 0.

(Disclaimer: Typically, editing registry subkeys or workgroups is intended for advanced users, administrators, and IT professionals. It can help to fix some problems, however, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, be sure to follow these steps carefully. For additional protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if there is a problem. 1. Update or roll back your graphics driver.

    To update the driver,

Press Windows + X and open the Device Manager > Expand the Display Adapter > Right-click on your NVIDIA video driver and select Properties > Switch to the Driver tab > Click Uninstall > After that, visit the brand manufacturer's official website and download the latest version of the driver and install it.

    To roll back the driver,

On the Driver tab of the NVIDIA video driver Properties > Click the Roll Back Driver button > Select a reason why you're rolling back (you can select any option) and click Yes > Restart your PC.

We have to go through a series of steps to find the true cause of the problem. If the above steps do not solve your problem, please let me know and I will continue to help you with the problem.

    Best regards

    Hi Natpars,

Thanks for your update. I'll try my best to investigate the root cause of this issue with you. And a corrupted ieframe.dll element can be a probable one, you can try to scan and repair corrupted system files.

Press and hold Windows+X to run Windows PowerShell (Administrator) > Copy and paste the following commands and hit Enter key after each line:

    SFC /SCANNOW

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Allow the process to finish and see if it solves any problems. Restart the device later.

Feel free to keep me informed.
