Can't use laptop as a mobile hotspot

I am trying to set up my laptop as a mobile hotspot for my Android phone. I want to share the laptop's wi-fi internet connection with the phone over a bluetooth connection between the phone and laptop. I can connect the phone and laptop via bluetooth and turn on the laptop mobile hotspot. The phone bluetooth settings say the phone is "connected to device for Internet access." However, as soon as the bluetooth connection completes, the laptop wi-fi turns off and I lose my Internet. I cannot turn it on again unless I terminate the bluetooth connection. The mobile hotspot settings say I am sharing "my Internet connection from Wireless Network Connection," but it also says "There is no Internet connection to share, but your mobile hotspot is still turned on." In short, if my laptop mobile hotspot is turned on, the laptop wi-fi turns off as soon as I connect my phone's bluetooth. Is there any way to fix this?

Thank you for the suggestion. However, I have tried that. The instructions raise several problems. First, there is no edit button in my Hotspot settings when I select share connection over Bluetooth. Also, since I'm sharing over BT, the instruction to find the connection in the wi-fi settings of my phone makes no sense. I've checked. It's not there. Since laptop wi-fi won't stay on, it shouldn't be there.

    Thanks again for the suggestion.
