The microphone on my headset stopped working from 7 Apr 22. It was due to a recent Realtek audio driver that auto-updated on 6 Apr. The symptoms are that the sound output/speaker is working, microphone input levels are picked up under Input in Sound Control, but somehow it cannot be picked up by any applications.

Tried all the app permissions and updating driver tips online but didn't work. Finally found a setting that was affecting the mic from functioning properly. Go to:

Settings > Sound > Sound control panel > Recording tab > double click "Headset Microphone" > Advanced tab > uncheck "Enable audio enhancements" > Apply

Test with voice recorder to see if this works. Im using ASUS Zenbook 13 on Windows 10 for reference. Hope this helps.
