Movies & TV (Filme & TV) Hardware acceleration

I am making 360 degree movies. And want to present them via a beamer.

There are more 360 degree cameras on the market than software to play them, is a bit strange.

Anyway: the Windows 10 built in App Movies & TV (Filme & TV in German) does a good job and plays them well. At least on my CAD machine with an i9 beast and a Radeon Pro WX 7100 card.

But for Media server I want to use an old I3 computer, it has a Intel® HD Graphics 4400 built in.

It works well when I play HD or 4k videos and use H264 codec

But I want to use 5760x2880 as 360 degree resolution and H265 codec.

When I use H265 then the playback struggles on the old computer anyway.

Therefore my plan is to upgrade the old computer with a graphic card with built in H265 codec. For example the Radeon RX550.

A user in an other forum suggested that NVIDIA GT1030 without hardware H265 may also do the job.

My question is: will the App Movies & TV use the extra power of a new graphic card and how?

To me it is not clear how the hardware support works in Windows, if an application need to take care of hardware support or if this is done by the Operating System.

I want to avoid to order graphic cards and then send back good cards just because they not work for my special needs, I am not this typ of customer.

Ok. I give up. Windows is by far too complicated and confusing for me, there is no such option in Movies and TV

    Hi Kirk

    Thx for the anser.

they are mov and mp4 and they play well.

onyl not with the higher resolution, therefore I am thinking to invest a grafic card.

my quation was if Movies & TV will use hardware support from the grafic card or not. Or if this is anyway an issue of the operating system, then it will use it.

    Hi,

Thanks for your post in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you want to play video in movies and TV that requires H.265 decoder.

We looked up a list of currently supported codecs for Windows based on your question.

It points out that the video formats currently supported by the H.265 decoder are: fMP4, MPEG-4, and MKV.

If the video you are processing is not in this list, it is highly likely that it cannot be used.

In addition, this table is for reference only, and some devices may also have certain optimizations.

    Hope it helps you.

I'm sorry that I may not be detailed, the software itself does not have such settings.

The settings interface I'm describing is the Nvidia control panel settings. After you have installed the Nvidia graphics card and drivers you can find the Nvidia Control Panel.

    It is theoretically possible.

There is an option to use a discrete graphics card to run movies and TV. Nvidia settings can choose which processing graphics card to use for individual programs. You can use your graphics card for computing by changing the Movies and TV settings to High Performance.
