Super Hot Computer and never ending Firmware Update

I accidentally left a place before an update was finished (I didn’t know it was firmware and it didn’t let me say no either) So thinking it was the usual quick update I did an update and shutdown and left after 30 minutes. Well when I got my computer out it was boiling and my screen has the black Dell page with the “updating firmware do not power down your system” and it’s not moving anything even though I should be in my internet coverage. Do I need to remove my battery and try to restart?

    Hi Cadence -

I'm Kevin B., I do apologize for the inconvenience that you're experiencing right now, let me help you sort things out.

Update sometimes takes time to complete especially if the updates are big or large updates. Interrupting the installation of windows updates might corrupt the operating system especially that the update is a firmware update.

Kindly try to wait a few more minutes for your computer until the update completes. If the update installation fails, the screen should give you a message or error message that the update fails to install.

Please do keep me posted once update completes

Hope this will help and have a bless day!

    Thanks.

    Kevin B.

    Hi Cadence -

Thanks for the response and I do apologize on the delayed on mine.

What happens after the restart? did it install the updates on your computer successfully?

If the update fails to install, kindly try to run the windows update troubleshooter to identify the issue and the tool will attempt to fix it.

It took the battery running out to finally trigger the update to fail and it restarted successfully.

Is the firmware update still running?

If so, can you take a screenshot if the installation and post it on your next response?

    I await your response

    Hi Kevin,

Unfortunately it hasn’t failed but it hasn’t progressed either. The computer remains hot to the point we are a bit concerned. The update has been going for a few hours now with no progress. And the keyboard is not working at all.
