Attempting Map Drive to Buffalo Personal Cloud Storage

Hello,

Using laptop with recently upgraded W11. Trying to map for personal cloud storage to my Buffalo LinkStation 210.

Quick Access>>Show More Options>>Map Network Drive

I am absolutely using the correct password and username, but it keeps giving me an error and not allowing the connection. I went through the Buffalo help for an hour, and they indicated it was a security setting on the Microsoft side of things. I can't get any phone or chat support, so figured I'd try posting here. Thank you.

Thank you again for the support.

I should explain further. The Buffalo storage device is directly connected to my router via what I think used to be called a CAT5 style cable.

Hello Mark, sorry about your problems. My name is Marco and I will do my best to help you.

I see that your Buffalo Linkstation 210 support only SMB 1.0.

Microsoft disabled the SMB version 1 protocol. The reason for this is this early version of the SMB protocol is inherently insecure and is considered a security risk.

Most older Buffalo NAS devices do not support SMB version 2 or above.

It is possible to activate the 1 but this will expose the system to additional security risk.

Just follow these steps on this site:

Have you tried resetting it (without the data loss)?

    As demonstrated here ( at the step 9-10-11 ) : https://www.buffalotech.com/knowledge-base/init...

And here it's all the steps https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/B1-CE80lQlS.pdf

Ok sorry this is my mistake, I saw the specifications of another model 210.

But it is written that it is supported by USB 2.0. Is it in a usb 2.0 or 3.1 port? Try in the 2.0 if it is.

If not, check which NAS Internal Port you are on and let it pass through the Windows firewall.

Here is a tutorial on how to do it.

You should find the ports used in "Webaccess Setting"

Thank you for your prompt reply. I have confirmed my Buffalo Linkstation 210 is completely on SMB 2. It is possible to change the settings to revert back to 1.0, but I should not need to.

I welcome any other ideas. It is Windows that is not allowing me to map and use this device as a backup.

    Thanks!

    Mark
