So i grew up in the flash player newground days and recently installed the debug version. I have some old swf files from a few years ago that i still enjoy playing and was curious if there was any security risks involved as the flash player is self contained? I tried searching Google for an answer but couldn't find anything reliable. Thanks.

The player itself does not connect to internet but since the download links were removed I assume you downloaded the debugger from a third party website in which case I would advise against using it on any system connected to internet.

Overall McNair66 there is a security risk in using the debugger no matter how secure you believe the swf file to be hence I would recommend against using it on your main system. Use a virtual machine disconnected from internet if you wish to play the file as that would be far secure than running the file on a debugger on your main machine connected to internet.

Okay thank you for your answer. And just to clarify i do have a active internet connection i just wanted to make sure there was no way for the flash player to connect to it somehow.

In that case yes. If the swf file is 100% trustworthy then you can use it.

    Hello Jaspreet,

I am aware of the potential security risk, However the SWF file in question is 100% virus free and i dont use the flash player via internet connection. I just wanted to make sure it was still safe to use dispite this?

    Hello McNair66,

    I am Jaspreet Singh.

I would recommend against using any untrusted flash files in the debugger too since the debugger is no longer being updated there will always be a security risk involved. The player is also running directly on your system as opposed to in a browser now so that increases the risk too.
