Connect Lenovo ThinkVision M14 portable monitor to HP Envy Notebook 13 via USB-C to USB-A

I have a Lenovo ThinkVision M14 portable monitor. My laptop doesn't have USB-C outlets, therefore I bought a cable with USB-C to USB-A. On the Lenovo ThinkPad laptop, this setup works fine - plug&play. However, on the HP Envy Notebook 13 I can't get it to work. There is power available to the M14. When connecting, Windows 10 says "Display connection might be limited. Make sure the DisplayPort device that you're connecting to is supported by your PC." In the device manager, I don't see a 2nd monitor. Instead, the M14 is recognized as BillBoard Device (under Universal Serial Bus devices). I tried to update the driver downloaded from the Lenovo website manually, but the latest driver is already installed. When going to the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel - Multiple Displays - Detect, no other display can't be detected. Windows is up to date. No driver updates etc. are pending. Anyone having input what else to try?

Hi, I'm Elise, and I'd be happy to help with your issue.

Unfortunately not every device supports display over USB, is suspect this may be the case with your HP device. Or that the USB port is not supplying enough power to the display.

Either way, you would need to check with HP support to see if your device is compatible with the display or not.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

    Kind Regards,

    Elise

Thanks for the quick answer Elise.

HP confirmed that neither the USB-A nor the USB-C ports have display capability. I shall look for a HDMI to USB-C converter instead.

    Kind regards

    Sabine
