USB audio devices have stopped working in Windows 11

Hi there,

The USB audio devices on my laptop have stopped working. The computer is a Razer Book 13 running the most recently updated version of Windows 11. I first noticed this when trying to host a Zoom meeting with a Meeting Owl, connected by USB. The video worked fine but I realized I could use the Meeting Owl neither as a microphone nor as a speaker, which I had been doing for months. This happened before I updated to Windows 11 but I still have the same problem now that I've updated.

Currently I have a Logitech Pro headset plugged into the USB-A port. I also have the most up to date version of the Logitech G Hub, which sees the headset but won't play any sounds. If I plug the headset into the audio jack it works fine and if I plug the headset into my android phone with a USB-C dongle and the Logitech DAC it also works fine, so I don't think it's the the headset.

I also have a Logitech C922 Pro webcam. Again, the video works in Zoom or Teams but the microphone does not. I was using this webcam for at least a year with no trouble before this problem started. The webcam is plugged into the USB-C port on my laptop, using a port extender. But I was also using this for ages before it all stopped working.

I have tried uninstalling the webcam and Logitech Pro drivers from the Device Manager as well as the Realtek Audio driver. My BIOS and other drivers are all up to date. I've also checked that the Windows Audio service is running.

Could somebody please advise on how to fix this issue?

Thank you,

Ab

    Hi Miguel,

I just wanted to follow up on this. I ended up doing a clean install of Windows 11 (including repartitioning the SSD) and everything is now working perfectly. All audio devices (webcam, Logitech headset, etc.) now operate exactly as expected when I plug them in.

    Thank you,

    Ab

    Hey there Ab!

My name is Miguel Ángel and I'm an independent advisor, also a Microsoft user just like you! I'll try to help you today with your issue.

The only Razer Book that is compatible with Windows 11 is the model RZ09-0357, which I think is the one you're using, if you can confirm.

Could you please run your system in Safe Mode and Clean Boot and check if the issue persists in both modes? Instructions are here:

    CLEAN BOOT: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-t...

    SAFE MODE: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/sta...

You may also want to disable any third-party antivirus and just use Windows Defender. Same with any software that may interfere directly with your device and its settings like optimizers and all that.

Follow the instructions given by Razer for these specific issues and tell me how it goes as well: https://mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/...

I'll wait for your reply! Don't worry, everything will be okay :)

Skype works fine with the built-in devices. With the headset plugged in the speakers and the microphone appear as devices in Skype but they are totally unresponsive. So there's not any way to add them to a call, at least not and have them produce any sound.

    Hi Miguel,

The audio does work in safe mode, but not after a clean boot. Also, I can confirm that this is the Razer Book model number.

    Thank you,

    Aneurin

You are never going to solve your problems because you have a thousand different moving parts. Take the C922 out of the equation because you are having audio problems.

Do a simple skype video call with your laptop's internal webcam and internal mic and internal speakers.

If that works then add your headset to your simple skype call.

If that works then add your Meeting Owl to your simple skype call.

If that works then add your C922 to your simple skype call.

After you established everything is working on a simple skype call, then you move on to Zoom hosting.
