An external sound card is probably what was meant

2022-04-23T14:39:24+00:00 Mind you, that you really control each speaker from the receiver since you have one. The speakers are its responsibility. If it doesn't offer that, Windows offers limited controls in sound settings. However, something like a movie may output directly to the receiver and thus the receiver may have to anyway.
I'm not really sure what you're trying to do there. The volume of each speaker eg hooked up to a receiver, is a receiver thing. TV for its speakers. For computer speakers, it would be of itself.
Eg for a movie, you don't adjust individual speakers on a computer as the movie audio track sends out what it has to the HDMI connected equipment. You only adjust each speaker on the receiver to the relative distance from the listener. If it doesn't offer that then get a better receiver.
In Windows, it may allow output changes of similar if it is controlling that aspect of audio from sound settings but only for what it can control.
That should be all you need. If you try to make something complex to do something else, that's on you. I wouldn't :-)

2022-04-23T13:32:54+00:00 You don't actually need an audio extractor lol. That's just people not knowing any better. You don't need one with or without a display on the end of an HDMI cable. Just don't need one period if you have the right stuff and the right settings. If you don't have the right stuff however, it may be an option, but I say its not a great way to go.
Mutl-channel from a computer has a bit of a learning curve as you now find. You need to have something on the receiving end of the HDMI cable that can work with what you want eg. 7.1 Dolby - the TV or a receiver needs to support it and also be compatible with the HDMI port on the laptop. Then on the computer, the application you use must be set to output at eg Dolby 7.1 and the source movie/stream on there must also be eg Dolby 7.1. Once that is done, and the TV or receiver is set to something compatible eg Dolby 7.1 then you get Dolby 7.1.
Built-in HDMI actually simplified it a lot over stuff in the past :-)
It can be more simple though such as if the TV or receiver can upconvert or automatically switch.
@Palcouk
There are people who think an HDMI audio extractor is the only way it works. They couldn't figure it out any other way. That is not an external sound card which is also not needed here where there's an HDMI port.

2022-04-23T22:51:46+00:00 I have got the point you wanted to mean..actually this is logical that movie coded sounds should be intact as receiver will process and supply.so that maybe windows dose not allow to change it..actually i have checked out all the options that windows has..what you said it’s right .receiver has the control.my receiver is little old it’s demon 2808 and the laptop is acer swift 3 with windows 11 .the receiver dose have the DVD HDMI input but not HDMI ARC although it’s supported to deliver The audio .maybe if have the ARC port maybe i could get some more support from the pc.but i like your idea of USB sound card i will try that and will check how much manual control dose it provides me.thank you for all your concern .It is quite wise and helpful .
