How do you fix Realtek(R) Audio output

I ordinarily play audio through my bluetooth headphones, so I don't know when or how exactly the issue sprung up but this morning I switched off my headphones and suddenly lost audio on the video I was watching. I have been able to confirm that the audio works perfectly fine when I reconnect my headphones, but when I switch output to my laptop's in-built speakers or to headsets plugged in via the headphone jack (both marked Realtek) I hear no sound at all. When I tried testing the devices I only got the error message failed to play test tone pop up on my screen, and all my drivers (as well as Windows 11) are up to date as far as I can tell. However, when checking the Realtek Audio driver in device manager I found the following text under the details:

Device HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0294&SUBSYS_10431E5E&REV_1000\5&164e668&0&0001 requires further installation.

Does anyone know what it means, and how to fix it? I considered uninstalling the driver and starting over but I don't want to accidentally break something or make it so that I have to open my laptop up to plug something back in. If someone knows that uninstalling that driver won't just break my device in that way, then I'm willing to try that. I should clarify I have not yet tested the microphone, and it could realistically not be working as well, but I am assuming that fixing the driver once would resolve any such secondary issues if they do indeed exist,

I am running Windows 11 Home on an ASUS ROG Strix laptop

    Good Day Displaydude,

My name is Carlo, I am also using Windows 11 pc and community member like you. Let us work together to sort this out.

Here's the steps you can try.

    -Go to Settings

    -Click System

    -Click Troubleshooter then Additional troubleshooter.

-Look for Playing Audio and run the troubleshooter.

    -Go to Device Manager

-Expand the Sound and Video Game Controllers

-Look for Audio driver that was installed

    -Right click and Update

-Look for "Browse my computer for driver

-Let me pick drivers available drivers

-Choose an old driver and use it.

    -Go to Control Panel

-In Control Panel, select Large icons from the View by drop down menu.

    -Select Sound.

    -Select the Playback tab

-Right click the Speakers and click Enable.

-Right-click it again and select Set as Default Device.

-Right click Speakers and click Properties.

-Click the Levels tab, then drag the volume slider towards the largest value.

    -Click on Advance Tab

-Uncheck the box to "Allow Application to take exclusive controls on this device"

    -Click OK.

Restart your computer and test the audio.

If issue persist, let's download the updated driver

What is the exact model of your computer?

To check the system model proceed with these steps.

    -Press Windows key + R

    -Type msinfo32 and hit enter.

Look for Baseboard version and Baseboard product and post it here.

I hope the information above helps. Please let me know how it goes.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

    Sincerely,

    Carlo T.

I had already tried the troubleshooter before coming here (just forgot to mention it) and it didn't help at all, so I skipped to the second solution you suggested and installed an older version of the driver and for now at least it seems to be working fine. I'll be monitoring it still of course, but I don't expect it to suddenly bug out again
