Every single browser I download will not open, so I believe Windows is blocking it

Hi, I'm trying to download another browser because frankly I'm not a fan of edge. I have downloaded chrome, firefox and opera gx and every single time, once they have installed, they won't open. Any idea how to fix it? Thanks!

I have this issue as well, on insider build 22598. Edge, chrome, and Firefox will not open. Edge and chrome do not respond at all while Firefox gives a message "XPCOM not found". 2 previous builds ago they all worked. The only browser I can get to open is opera which I had to download from the Microsoft store. Microsoft edge cannot be uninstalled, and the fix offered in add/remove programs does not fix the problem.

I have turned off my antivirus, it makes no difference.

    Hi,

Does anything happen at all when you click on the browser icons?

Do you have any third party antivirus and/or firewall software installed on your computer? (Norton, McAfee, etc...)

If you do, try temporarily disabling your antivirus and firewall and then try clicking on your browser links and see if they open. If they do, your security software is preventing you from opening your browser for some reason.

    Kindest regards,

    Neil

Hi, I did what you said, no malware threats were detected so I don't really know what to do.

Hi, my name is Neil and I'm a Windows 11 user like you.

Sorry you're having trouble opening other browsers.

After you have downloaded and installed these other web browsers, you obviously click on them to open them, does anything happen at all or do you receive any error messages?

This sounds to me more like a malware issue, where some malware on your system is preventing you from opening these browsers.

If you're still able to access the internet using Edge, I suggest you download, install and run Malwarebytes anti malware.

This is an excellent program for detecting and removing malware infections from computers. You can download it from here: https://www.malwarebytes.com/ Simply click on the "FREE DOWNLOAD" button.

After downloading, find the "MBSetup.exe" file and click on it to install Malwarebytes. You get a 14 day free trial, but even after the trial expires, you can continue to use the scanner to scan for malware infections.

Once Malwarebytes is installed, click on "Scan".

Let the scanner run and see what it finds. If anything is found, remove it and then reboot your computer and run another scan.

Keep doing this until Malwarebytes reports ""No threats detected".

Let me know how you get on.

    Kindest regards,

    Neil
