Hello, I’m Virginia, I have 20 years of expertise in fixing my own & friends’ PC problems.

Sorry to hear you’re experiencing problems. May I ask which Windows 10 build are you running - 2004, 20H2, 21H1 or 21H2?

Are there any files on the drive which are not backed up?

You can use the clean cmd within diskpart:

Right click Start>powershell with admin & enter:

    Diskpart

    List disk

Select disk X (where X is the number of the drive you wish to clean)

    Clean

    Exit

    Exit

Then go to disk management & you may be asked to initialise the disk - allow this, then you can format the disk.

If at any point this fails then the drive has failed.

Some software could be blocking it, it could have a partition or format type or something that Windows doesn't like, or just missing a drive letter.

You can double check in Windows Disk Management if it show up. Its also possible to miss it but it can in certain situations only show up at the bottom of the bottom list in WDM.

Try to assign a drive letter if it lets you and has none.

If it doesn't show up at all anywhere or nothing works then booting into a usb of gparted and formatting (lose everything on it) it to something compatible eg NTFS should get it back in Windows.

Someone else around here will probably also mention things and help further.

Have you turned off the PC then turned it on again rather than just restart?

Ensure the HDD is fully connected within the PC. You can try disconnecting it then reconnecting it again.

Does the HDD have a separate power supply?

Can you tell if the drive spins up?
