I have an HP laptop, serial number 8CG8360CFJ. I switched to Dev channel just for fun. But after some days I got a new trackpad driver update but it failed to install. Here is a picture of it. And after that my synaptics touchpad stopped working, and the application for the trackpad crashes while I try to open it and then it showed a dialog box saying some other drivers are installed for the touchpad so we are uninstalling synaptics touchpad. i tried everything from updating the drivers form Device manager to installing drivers from HP website, but non of this seems to work for me. Please help me with this.

Hi Satya. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

Keep in mind Insider builds are by nature unstable and buggy, meant to use your PC to work out bugs in the Insider program via feedback in Insider forums here: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-...

For this reason it's important to never use your main PC for Insider builds, only a test machine you have to spare.

Touchpad is a prime target for this instability. I'll give you all possible fixes for touchpad issues. Even if you've completed a step please do it again in this sequence, report back results.

    1. Update the Touchpad driver from the HP Driver downloads web page here using the Serial Number on PC sticker: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers.

Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu. Make sure you also have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.

    1. If that doesn't help then enter Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button, go to Mice > Touchpad and then Driver tab. Choose Update Driver, then Automatic to see if it gets a better driver that resolves the problem. If not try Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick to try all previously installed drivers.
    2. If that doesn't work then try uninstalling driver, Restart PC using keyboard to Ctrl Alt Del, on blue screen tab to Power Icon in bottom right, press Enter, arrow down to Restart, press Enter to restart to reinstall the driver.
    3. See the troubleshooting steps here:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-US/help/402786...

    1. Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad to go over the Settings. Then choose Additional Settings which opens the Mouse properties box. The Touchpad software installs a tab onto it - usually the last one - that should have more settings to check, including a checkbox to Disable Touchpad when USB pointing device is attached. This prevents palm drag from causing the cursor to jump
    2. If this was caused by Windows Update(s) then you can check which were installed at Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update under Update History, then uninstall them from the link there, and immediately check for these again and hide with the Hide Updates tool explained here:

    https://www.droidwin.com/how-to-stop-only-a-spe...

You can also go into Repair Mode by whichever method works here: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-advanc... to use the new Uninstall Updates button in Advanced Troubleshoot Options: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/boot-to-advanced-...

You can also use System Restore from within Windows or the above Repair Mode to get back before the problem began, then check for Updates with the Hide Update tool and hide them:

    https://itechhacks.com/system-restore-windows-11/

    1. Expedite install of all Windows Updates in Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates, including needed restarts, then go back to check again until no more are offered.

Then go into Microsoft Store app > My Library > Get Updates and expedite all Store app Updates, too, until no more are offered.

    1. Establish a Clean Boot to turn off Startup Freeloaders that can conflict and cause issues:

    https://www.makeuseof.com/clean-boot-windows-11/

    1. Download, install and run a full scan with free Malwarebyes from https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/ after enabling Root Kit scan in Scan Settings. Clean Up anything it finds and then run again. Turn off Real Time trial in Control panel to keep as on-demand scanner.
    2. Run System File Checker/DISM in WIndows 11:

    https://www.elevenforum.com/t/use-system-file-c...

    1. If that doesn't fix it then you can do a Windows 11 Repair Upgrade which reinstalls Windows while saving your files and apps in place, brings it up to the latest version by the most stable method, takes about an hour and resolves most problems: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/repair-install-wi...

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.

You install both bios and All updates from the PC makers support, and no where elese

In win update you turn off auto update of Optional updates, as that includes drivers.

The Insider version is a beta
