Passwords Microsoft Passwords

Anytime Microsoft requests a password from me I know my blood pressure is going to rise. Anyone else requesting a password no problem because I always write them down. How many different types of passwords does Microsoft have, for instance a profile password, there has to be other passwords because although they are written down I'm constantly changing my passwords because they are always wrong. I just installed Win10 Pro on a computer I just purchased from an owner and I have a user profile password, and another password tied to an email account, I believed that I had a password tied to my phone number that I just wrote down two days ago and it's wrong now. I'm tired of creating great passwords just to throw them away. What I wanted to do was create one password to use for any passwords I needed for anything Microsoft so I'll never be wrong and don't have to worry about having a stroke.

Hi EF. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded MVP, here to help you.

Only if you're using a Local Account to sign into Windows does it need to be different from your Microsoft account email password. Or you can try using the same password but it's not quite as secure. Be sure to set up password reset test questions on the sign-in screen if it ever doesn't work:

    https://www.windowscentral.com/how-reset-passwo...

If you're using a Microsoft Account then be sure to keep your Security Info mobile and alternate email up to date to avoid the hassle of having to go through Account Recovery: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12428/...

You can also set up a PIN which is actually more secure than a password, which seems strange I know but is explained here:

You're ahead of most people because you write down your passwords. It's annoying when they don't work, and we do see those cases here but most people don't write them down, so you are already ahead there.

They don't recommend using the same password across all your sites as a hacker than would have an easier time.

If you ever feel you need more than a password to protect you, you can enabled two factor authentication which sends a code to your phone every time to sign in: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-set-two-step.... Some sites like banks can also set that up for you. Then in order to breech any site a hacker would need to clone your phone, which most won't bother with.

I hope it helps to have all options. But If this isn't exactly what you need, please explain a bit more so I can help you better. Otherwise feel free to ask back questions and keep me posted on your progress as I will be here to help until this is resolved.
