Lenovo Integrated Camera Not Working with Windows 11

Both my husband and I have Lenovo laptops (S340-15IIL Touch Laptop (ideapad) - Type 81WW and IdeaPad 5i) and after the latest windows update our integrated cameras do not work in any apps or programs. We have tried all the troubleshooting, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, F8, etc.

When we view the camera in settings it has a solid gray box (the indicator light shows next to the camera showing it is in use). Also have tried the Camera app and experience the same gray box. Has anyone else experienced this and found a fix?

hello, we are two people having this computer and also that problem. we solved it easily : under w10 family x64bits, you shouldn t do anything, nor in windows or in the drivers section.

it happens that the camera has a thin scratched line part just under the bezel and above the camera. with your nail, push it smoothly to the right , then its light will become white if you have launched windows camera app, you should see something instantly!!

when you quit any app using the camera, the light will turn off, that s all !!

at least it worked for us

    Hi NicoleF_ATL

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

The webcam on that laptop has a privacy slider beside the webcam that may be closed, please check if the slider beside your webcam is closed.

Also, if that shutter was already open, on the function keys (F1 - F12) do any of those have a camera icon on them, and if so, if you press that key or Fn + that key, does that turn on your webcam?

    The shutter was already open.

However, I was just able to fix it by uninstalling the last 2 Microsoft Windows updates. I reverted back to a few weeks ago when I know it was working fine.

For anyone else having this issue, go to Control Panel->programs -> programs and features -> Installed updated and look under the Microsoft Windows updates. Uninstall the updates to get back to a time it worked - for me, I had to uninstall 2 updates - by clicking in the update and selecting uninstall and restarting the computer.

I'll try this on my husband's laptop tonight and see if it fixed his camera issue as well.

Thanks so much for the reply. I have checked all the function keys and the shutter with no luck. I wish it was that easy 😀

Thanks. My F8 key had a camera icon. Probably I have accidentaly turned the camera off through this function key.
