Thanks, my googling failed me so I appreciate the links if for no other reason than seeing I'm not the one idiot who can't set up windows out of the box :)
Unable to set up new computer with windows 11 work account
I just bought a new desktop and am trying to do the initial setup of Windows 11 Pro 64 bit. This desktop is for work (my own business) so during setup I chose "work or school account" and successfully logged in to my work account. Then I go through all the location tracking and privacy options to finish the "out of the box experience" (OOBE). At the end, I get the "Hi" message for a few seconds and then a black screen with the message "The username or password is incorrect"
After I click OK, I get to the normal windows login screen, but the only user account is "other user" (not the work account I picked during setup). When I try to type in my microsoft account email and password, I get the message "We are unable to connect right now. Please check your network and try again later."
I have reset windows and removed all files several times, trying both the local install and cloud install options, but the result is always the same. There is no problem with my internet, and I have verfied several times that both my username and password are correct. I don't know what to try next. The only workaround I found was disconnecting my ethernet cable and creating a local account, then connecting my microsoft account to that local account, but I'm worried that method creates a security vulnerability. Please help.

2022-04-18T11:44:34+00:00 Hi Jose, thanks for your reply. However, if you read my question again you'll see that I'm having this problem on a fresh install so I can't log in at all. The steps you suggest only work if I go offline and create a local account first, log in, go back online and THEN connect to my work account.
As I stated at the end of my post, I don't want to do it this way because I'm concerned that installing the local account is a security vulnerability, but if there's no other way to get windows set up then I'll be forced to do it. Surely it shouldn't be necessary, though??

If your goal is to use an work or school account, please select Start, Settings and finally Accounts. Next select Access work or school, and then select Connect. Now search for Join this device to Azure Active Directory and select it. On the Let's get you signed type your work email account, next type your password. On the Make sure this is your organization select join. Finally restart your device. After that, you will be able to login using your work account.
Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

2022-04-18T13:27:49+00:00 Hi Jose,
I followed your suggested steps but the same thing still happens when I complete the out of the box experience setup.
By the way, the only reason the device was even in the device list was because (as a troubleshooting step) I tried creating a local account and then connecting to my work account to verify that the windows install was working properly. So I'm not surprised I still got the same result :(
