Lifecam HD-3000 no longer recognized

Good day. So over the pandemic-ish years we, as a company, standardized on the Microsoft Lifecam HD-3000 for simplicity, standards and cost.

Reasonable camera we could all use in a Windows environment. Considering it was a Microsoft product and we were windows it makes perfect sense....right?

So, suddenly Windows does not recognize the camera and there is ZERO kb on this issue an for the 30+ camera's we have out there it's a slow burn. Meaning, each few days someone comes to us and says my camera stopped working?

WTH microsoft!! I don't need to hear the "unplug it and plug it back in" generic support at this point.

Updates have been done, windows 11 is also failing and that's about enough time ANY human should spend on a camera that's supposed to be supported natively even in Windows.

So, what's the fix Microsoft? This is your poroblem. I ended up buying two new Asus camera's just to get our boardrooms back connected, but should I really be doing that??!?

Please check Device manager. If a camera is not listed or if it can be found in hidden devices, it is broken unfortunately.

    Hi Colin,

My name is Igor, I have 12 Microsoft MVP awards. It's a pleasure for me to help others and I'll do all my best to help you. I'm sorry you have a problems.

Please check if camera is presented in Device manager. If nor, sorry but you have problems with camera itself or camera's cable.

It is sad but any technical device is not eternal and can become broken.

FWIW Lifecam HD-3000 works fine here under win11

In Device Manager are there any yellow warning marks under Sound, Vidio & game Controlers?

    If these are branded PC's

Did you update both Bios & All drivers from that laptop/PC makers support site and not win update?

In win Update settings turn off auto update of Optional updates, which includes drivers

I think that's reasonable to explore. I'll buy a new one now.

I've seen stranger things, and it sounds like you have as well ;)

Well, I suspect I could bring in 20+ systems to do all that work, but does that sound reasonable?

It's a webcam and the devices they're attached to range from Lenovo's at our sites to Dell's locally. Are they ultra current on firmware/BIO etc? Not likely but again. It's a webcam we paid ~$50 for. Now I gotta do a couple hundred in support to get it to work?

My personal Surface Book with Windows 11 no longer recognizes it for whatever reason and my first user just came through the door and I'm anticipating that to slowly grown based on the wasted time I've alreay spent on one system which got all the updates etc you speak of to no avail. Could it be I'm lucky and 3 of the local camera's just got fried? Maybe.
