Computer isn't sending out a signal to my monitor; it was working perfectly last night. Can I save it?

So, yeah. Last night I put it to sleep and...that was the last time my computer worked. When I woke up, when I tried using it, the monitor said "no signal detected."

I have since then tried using a wired mouse and keyboard to no avail. I have tried different HDMI cords and different configurations. Nothing. The desktop refuses to send out a signal. I don't know if the GPU died or something. I have restarted it so often.

What worries me a lot is that there is what appears to be a disk drive writing/reading light on the desktop. I am not 100 percent sure it regularly lights up when turning on, but since the problem occured it's been completely dark, not lighting up once.

The fans on it are all working at least when it's turned on.

I have a windows 10 desktop.

How do I check what went wrong?

    Hi Kitten-versus-world,

Good day! This is Jhakesong and I will be happy to assist you with this.

I am sorry to hear about the inconvenience. Have you tried a force shutdown since the issue occurred? If you haven't yet, please do so.

    1. Hold down the power button of your computer until the lights go off.
    2. Turn the computer back ON.
    3. Observe if it has a display when the BIOS screen shows.
    4. If it doesn't, it's a hardware issue. Check the video card. Unplug and replug the hdmi cable if that is what you are using.

If replugging the HDMI cables do not work, and if you are comfortable, try reseatting the GPU from the motherboard while the computer is OFF. Turn it ON and check if at least it shows the BIOS splash screen. If it doesn't then we can conclude that the GPU died.

Of course, If possible, try connecting the monitor to another device (game console or another computer). That is just to check that you are not facing a faulty monitor issue.

Let me know how it goes. Have a great day!

Oh, I tried several forced shutdowns. I basically have to if I want to even turn the computer off because there's no boot screen or anything. I also have tried the replugging HD cable thing.

I want to note before attempting the reseatting of the GPU that there is in fact a light that blinks on board the GPU when the computer is turned on. I think it indicates that power is going into it. I looked it up and apparently this is maybe because there's abnormal power being put into it.

It's extremely unclear because the manufacturer isn't transparent about it but apparently how it's supposed to go is that the light should stay off.

Is it possible that it's actually some sort of problem with the power source unit not fueling the rest of the computer properly? I know it's a silly question because logically if a PSU failed, why would a desktop still be able to be turned on?

    Hi Kitten-versus-world,

Thank you for the update. Based on what you did, I belive the PSU is okay. Otherwise, you won't see power coming in. What is your motherboard model? Let me check if it has an onboard graphics. If you can try the second GPU slot as you mentioned, that would be a great idea.

If the GPU fits another computer tower, that can be a good place to check if it is indeed working. If you have another HDMI cable, might as well try that too.

    Let me know what happens.

Ok, so, I tried reseating the GPU and nothing changed. I don't know if I should try the other slot. I also plugged in the HDMI cord into the upper slot, to what I think might be an onboard graphics card, and I don't think it worked. I might try it again just in case or maybe verify there's on board graphics.

I'm going to try getting my brother to lend me his old tower. I'm not really at all sure I can actually fit the GPU or anything else in there but I figure I have to try something to verify what's working and what's not.

And yeah, the monitor is fine.
