My friend has windows 10 and her computer was working completely fine. However, it randomly shut down and now it only detects one of the plugged in monitors and duplicates one screen onto both of them.

I had the same issue and just fixed it. My computer randomly messed up and all the monitors went black and when I restarted, only my right 2 monitors (using displayport, third used HMDI) would turn on but they were duplicated and windows only detected a single monitor.

I went into the device manager and first uninstalled the display adapter for my graphics card (which my 3 monitors were plugged into). After that I right clicked on "Generic PnP monitor" under "Monitors." I clicked scan for hardware changes and then it was fixed.

    Best of luck

Hello, I'm Louie, and I'm happy to help you today. Hope you're doing well and safe there. I'm sorry that you're having trouble with your second monitor not being detected.

If your laptop/computer won’t detect the second monitor, then run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter to resolve the issue.

This checks for commonly occurring issues and ensures any new device or hardware is correctly installed on your computer.

    1. Right-click Start.
    2. Select Control Panel.
    3. Go to the View by the option on the top right corner.
    4. Click the drop-down arrow and select Large icons.
    5. Click Troubleshooting.
    6. Click View all option on the left pane.
    7. Click Hardware and Devices.
    8. Click Next to run the troubleshooter.

Try to Check the Display settings:

    1. Open the Windows search bar.
    2. Type in Display Settings.
    3. Check the option for Multiple Displays.
    • If your laptop doesn’t detect the second display, the option will not show.
    • In this case, make sure the monitor is turned on and plugged into your video port.
    1. Then, press Detect.
    2. Select the correct source labeled on your monitor’s controls so that you’re using the correct video port.

I would recommend you to try the solutions provided on the support article below.

Hope this helps and looking forward for good results.

    Kind regards,
