I need to enable my display adapter with a cracked screen

So a while back my laptop screen cracked and i was using an external monitor as a backup. The problem was, I needed to boot into safe mode but my external monitor wasn't displaying it.

I looked up online and someone said i could try disabling my display adapter so the computer would recogise my monitor as a the main one. Obviously that didn't work and now im stuck here with no way of seeing my desktop.

Is there any way i can revert it back to the way it was, Like a command prompt or something, but nothing too interface heavy as im working blind here.

Thanks.

Hello Dyari, I tried the methods you said but no luck. I believe it was me disabling my display adapter in device manager which caused my external monitor to not be detected by my laptop. The only solution i think could work is doing a system restore with command prompt but not being able to see what im doing is going to be difficult. Appreciate any input.

    Hi qazzy,

I'm Dyari. Thanks for reaching out. I will be happy to assist you in this regard.

As far as I understood your question, your laptop screen is broken and you used a monitor to use your laptop but now your laptop does not recognize the monitor. Is that correct? If yes,

The best option is to fix the laptop screen, however, try to use a VGA cable rather than an HDMI or DVI. VGA cable would display the screen after turning on the laptop.

If still did not display anything, Press Win Key + P randomly to duplicate the screen

Or, close the laptop lid after turning on the laptop to see if it displays the screen or not.

Please let me know if you need further assistance and keep me updated.

    Stay safe

yeah forgot to mention before i am using a vga cable, the only thing i did in device manager was disable my HD graphics 4000 which im certain is the cause. Do you know if theres possibly a command line that could turn the adapter back on?

    Hi qazzy,

Even with CMD, the system restore commands directs you to the System Restore GUI Wizard and it is hard to perform a system restore if you do not see the screen.

Have you checked with VGA cable, do you see anything when you turn on the computer? If you do, force the computer to shut down 2 times until you get windows Troubleshooting > Advanced Options > System Restore > perform a system restore:

Please let me know if you need further assistance and keep me updated.
