    Hi Bernard.

    I have a similar experience.

My Dell laptop came pre-installed with free 15-months McAfee Anti-virus protection.

Just prior to expiry of the protection, I decided to switch over to Windows Security.

I did both methods of McAfee App Removal, i.e. the Standard Windows Removal and when I still couldn't switch over to Windows Security, I downloaded the MCPR as suggested by McAfee and ran it.

Still didn't work and Dell Support helped me to reinstall something and it still didn't work.

As a result I have been without protection for quite a number months.

    What went wrong?

    Thanks.

    Lee

Hi and thanks for reaching out. My name is Bernard a Windows fan like you. I'll be happy to help you out today.

I understand the issue you have, nothing to worry I am here to help, I know some of these steps are already done, you have just skipped it if you think it will have the same result.

    Method 1. Remove From apps:

. Click the Windows icon in the lower-left corner of your screen.

    1. Click Settings → System → Apps & features.
    2. Click the Avira product and then Uninstall.
    3. Follow the uninstallation process.

Method 2. Remove from control panel apps.

Press Windows key + R then type in:

    appwiz.cpl

Look for Avira> Right click then click uninstall
