Pc randomly freezes/ screens go black

Hi Everyone,

Im asking this mostly because im afraid im destroying my gpu.

Ive been having problems with my screen going black/ randomly freezing in a lot of scenarios, at startup it oftenly turns one or more of my screens off and then on again, while watching shows of vlc it regularly freezed, and during games it or freezed or sometimes just showed me the desktop for a few seconds for it to return to the game (sounds staying on all the while). After some troubleshooting i deducted that is was probably my gpu, so i replaced my gpu and since then it has been happening a lot less often, but it still happens probably once a day.

Now as you can see Windows has been telling me about quite a lot of hardware errors, and im not sure(because i only checked it today) but it seems to kind of line up with the freezes.

A few months ago my ram and mobo broke after a migration to a new case and where replaced, so there's not that many replacable parts left.

I can say pretty certainly that its not a overheating issue since its quite a high airflow case with 3 140mm intake and 1 140 outtake fan, a noctua Nhd14 with both fans (and a new graphics card thats not overclocked with beefy cooler: asus tuf rtx 3080 10g)

Someone please help, it was a huge investment in a new graphics card and im really afraid of breaking it.

    Are you sure you've never installed any Asus software on this computer?
    The only explanation for having these services enabled on your computer is at some point having Asus software installed.
    Uninstalling some Asus software leaves leftovers like this. Sometimes it can take a long time for them to start having problems.

    You can try to remove them using Revo Uninstaller Free.

    Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

    From the behavior you described, it looks like the video driver is stopping responding, but it is recovering and working again.

    A clean driver install may help in your case.

    Download the latest driver for your video card from the Nvidia website. Then use the free DDU tool to remove the current driver. Then install the latest driver using the installer you downloaded.

    DDU: https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-dr...

    Nvidia driver download: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.a...

    I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions.

    Sorry for the delay in reply.

    If you are getting the error stating that you did not shut down your computer properly even when doing the procedure correctly, it could be caused by the Fast Startup feature.

    Disable the Fast Startup feature and see if the error will be reported again.

    1. Press "Windows + R", type powercfg.cpl and press "Enter";
    2. In the left panel, select "Choose what the power button does";
    3. Uncheck "Turn on fast startup" and click "Save changes".

    Note: If the setting is not available to be changed, click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable" at the top of the page.

    There is a small chance that disabling Fast Startup will resolve the freezes as well.

    Hi David,

    Thanks so much for helping!

    I had already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers but not this thoroughly. So I now downloaded the tool and deleted the drivers in Safe Mode (even deleted AMD and intel drivers even though it has been some 5 years since those have been in the pc but it cant hurt). Then restarted and installed reccomended drivers.

    Ill keep you up to date if anything has changed or it happens again! (its hard to test since it doesnt seem to be happening at any specific moment and it isnt often so hopefully we see quick results or (even better) it doesnt happen again).

    Thanks again for trying to help!

    Matt

    If you don't find any errors on the disk and the problem persists, perform an InPlace Upgrade. This procedure reinstalls Windows, which helps to fix problems.
    But don't worry. You have the option to keep files, settings, and apps.

    1. Download the Windows 11 ISO file from the link below;
      https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11
    2. Double-click the ISO to run;
    3. On the "Install Windows 11" screen, uncheck "I want to help make the installation of Windows better" and select "Change how Windows Setup download updates";
    4. On the next screen, select "Not right now" and click "Next";
    5. Accept the terms of use;
    6. On the "Ready to install" screen, select "Choose what to keep" and select what you want to keep.
    7. Click on "Install" and wait for the procedure to finish. Your computer may restart several times.
