I used to be able to connect my laptops and share folders and files using wi fi connection.

Now although the folder says that it is shared, in reality it is not. When I try to share it , after few minutes I get this message: your folder cannot be shared!

Please help

    Hi Mohga,

Welcome to Microsoft Community. I'm Mosken, let me help you.

According to your description, I knew that you encountered an error while sharing a folder and were told "your folder cannot be shared". Is that right?

First, I suggest you confirm that the file sharing discovery in your system is turned on. "Win" logo key + "Q", open the search box, type "Control", enter to open "Control Panel" (View by category) > "Network and Internet" > "Network and sharing Center" > "Change advanced sharing settings", enable "Turn on network discovery" and "Turn on file and printer sharing".

Then confirm the system firewall allows this feature to pass. Win *+*Q to open the search box, enter "Firewall.cpl", press Enter to open the firewall interface in Control Panel, click "Allow an application or features through Windows Defender Firewall" > "Change Settings" on the left, then check it in the "File and Printer Sharing" and "File and Printer Sharing via SMBDirect" list,  then "OK".

Then you can try creating a new folder and try setting up the sharing again. Right-click the directory you want to share > Properties*, and set it up as shown in the image below.*

Then if there any third-party protection software (antivirus software) installed in your system, you may quit/disable/uninstall those apps first and try check it again.

Then you may try to restart related services. **** Please run the Command Prompt as administrator (logo key "Win" + "Q", enter "cmd", select "Run as administrator") and enter the following commands one by one.

net start lmhosts & net stop lmhosts & net start lmhosts

net start FDResPub & net stop FDResPub & net start FDResPub

Win + R to open "Run", enter "Optionalfeatures" and press Enter, check all the contents of "SMB 1.0 / CIFS File Sharing Support" and "SMB Direct" in the "Windows Features" interface, then "OK". Restart the system.

In addition, you could visit File sharing over a network in Windows (microsoft.com) for more content related to Windows networking, hope it will help you.

The above steps are provided based on the information I have learned so far, and hope that could help you a little. If the problem still exists, please provide us a full PSR from the beginning, through the whole process, and until the error message is displayed, so we can further investigate.

    Best Regards,
