Windows 10 cannot boot after Backup Image using Macrium Reflect

I have 1 notebook dan 1 PC.

1 notebook is Thinkpad L13 with SSD 256 GB (NVME). OS is Window 10 Ultimate.

I wanted to upgrade SSD to 1 TB.

Before upgrade, I did clone or backup image of my SSD.

I removed internal SSD from Thinkpad, and connect it to PC (using PCIe converter to m.2 NVME).

I used software Macrium Reflect, and choose Build Image (I can't choose clone disk because I only have 1 partition left as destination, not a disk). i did backup Image of 3 partitions i.e. recovery, EFI, and System.

Building image run succesfully, and now I have a file .mrimg in a folder in PC partition.

Because my new SSD 1 TB is not yet delivered to my house, I try to install previous SSD (256 GB) on Thinkpad.

I can't boot to Windows anymore.

The error message is:

winload.efi is missing.

Error 0xc000000f.

I have tried these 5 operations, and it's all failed.

  1. Using bootable USB Windows 10.
  • bootrec /fixboot --> success
  • bootrec /fixmbr --> success
  • bootrec /scanos --> number of installation windows: 0
  • bootrec /rebuildbcd --> number of installation windows: 0

-diskpart

-list disk --> only 1 disk.

  • list vol --> only 1 volume i.e volume 0.

There is no volume 1 (should be approx. 230 GB)

I cannot acces another drive except drive X. C or D is missing.

  1. Using bootable USB windows 10:

Tried Startup Repair --> No changed, always come back to this screen.

  1. Using Macrium Reflect Rescue Media.

Not successfull.

  1. Using AOMEI Backupper Bootable Media --> Not successful
  2. Using EasyRE bootable USB --> cannot boot from USB.

When I check once again my previous SSD (256GB) in my PC (using PCIe converter), there are still 3 partition as below:

  • Recovery
  • EFI
  • System (Basic)

Folder boot in System is missing.

There is a folder "boot" in Windows\System 32\boot, and it contain folder and files of Macrium.

What can I do to recover the boot of My previous Windows 10 and do not loose my previous Windws Installation and all program?

Thanks you in advanced.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your post in Microsoft Community.

    I understand that you are having issues with missing winload.efi.

    If your computer supports both UEFI Boot Mode and Legacy Boot Mode, you can try enabling CSM Boot and disabling Secure Boot and check if the problem is resolved.

    If changing the boot mode doesn't work, you may need to reinstall Windows.

    Please feel free to let me know how it goes.
