downgrade from Enterprise to Pro

Hello,

A handful of computers at my company were installed as Enterprise and somehow apparently activated ok with a Pro license but as we dont have any Enterprise licenses we need to change the version to Pro.

I tried just changing the license key to our Pro one and activating - rebooting. It all went fine except the version is still Enterprise.

Re-installing isn't an option as these computers are in use by high value users with a heavy workload of important work. Rebuilding them with all their technical software etc would put them out of action for far too long.

Is there a way to sort this without a re-install? Is Windows just clinging on to a different key somewhere I can just delete from the reg or something?

Thanks,

    Hi A_Name_That_Is_Not_Taken

I am Dave, I will help you with this, try this fix.

Important - disconnect totally from the Internet

Open the Settings App (Gear icon on your Starr Menu)

Go to Update and Security - Activation

    Click Change Product key

Enter this generic product key: VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T

    When prompted, click 'Activate Product'

If the above does not work first time, restart your PC and try again.

Note the generic key will cause Enterprise to downgrade to the Pro edition, then restart (not shut down) your PC and the Pro edition should be installed.
