Hi Everyone,

I have a Microsoft exchange account given by my university. I have signed in my personal laptop using it. I am using windows 10 and I can see this account in 'Accounts used by email, calendar and contacts'. I connect my personal laptop to home internet and university internet. I have the following questions:

  1. Can my university IT admin remotely access any content on my personal laptop (browsing history, files, emails of personal account, etc)
  2. Can my university IT admin apply any group policies on my personal laptop or install/uninstall applications
  3. Can my university IT admin take screenshot of my laptop screen or view the display remotely?

Let me know.

Thanks

Tinkushal

To check this open start and go to Settings and then click on Accounts and under Access work or school and if nothing is listed there, then your PC is standalone, and they won't be able to manage it.

No, when account is administrator it doesn't mean you enroll it.

It simply means you could perform administrator tasks with that account, but your university would have power to change password, disable account but they won't be able to manage your device.

Did you used to account to login to your PC or did you connect your device to the university?

In case you only use the account to login, and you didn't enroll your PC, then they don't have any access and they couldn't make any change to your PC.

However, they are able to reset your password and disable your account.

Therefore, in case this is a personal computer, I recommend you to login with Microsoft Account or Local Account which you have full control over it.

You may create two accounts, one with university account for universities work and another with personal account for your personal use and make sure Personal account is the administrator.

    Hey Reza,

I more question: I logged into my office 2019 professional plus account with my university account. I can see it when I go to File --> Account in word 2019. Does that give university admin or IT any control over the office applications? I had connected university onedrive account also to my laptop and office applications.

    Thanks

    Hi

Thanks for your reply. If I enrolled my PC, what kind of control does the university have? Is there a way to know if I enrolled or not? Can you answer my questions given above based on this case? Also, if I make university account as administrator when I login to windows, does that mean I have enrolled my PC?

    Let me know.
