I swapped my Hard Drive to an SSD and now my internet is slow and takes 5 mins to work!

So I got a new SSD for Christmas and used it to replace my 2TB Hard drive but when I replaced it, it is slow and it takes 5 mins for it to connect to my ethernet cable upon turning on my pc.

The ethernet cable is perfectly fine, I have tested it on a laptop and it produces high speeds.

My PC does not take 5 mins to connect to ethernet at my Uni flat, so it is only on my Home ethernet cable.

I have also tried swapping the Hard Drive and SSD back to how it was originally and the ethernet connects straight away, how it should.

I figure there's something on the Hard drive that the SSD is missing but I don't know what.

Any help would be appreciated! :)

    Thanks for the clarification.

    It looks like you have a Foxconn motherboard. But unfortunately, I could not identify your network adapter.

    Do the procedure below and see if it solves the problem.

    Reset network settings:

    1. Open Start and select "Settings > Network & Internet > Status";
    2. At the bottom of the page, click on "Network Reset";
    3. Select "Reset Now", and at the confirmation screen, select "Yes";

    Note: The PC will need to be restarted.

    1. Now open Start and type cmd;
    2. Right-click on "Command Prompt" in the result list and select "Run as administrator";
    3. At the Command Prompt, type the following commands one at a time and press Enter:

    netsh int ip reset

    netsh advfirewall reset

    netsh winsock reset

    ipconfig /release

    ipconfig /renew

    ipconfig /flushdns

    1. Restart your PC and see if the issue is resolved.

    If it persists, send a screenshot of your network adapters.

    1. Open "Device Manager" (Windows + X and select Device Manager);
    2. Expand "Network adapters".

    Your computer's hard drive has nothing to do with the speed of your network. Something else is making your network slow.

    If you have any other information that might be helpful in diagnosing your network problem, please let us know. Otherwise, I suggest that you re-create your network from scratch. Here's how to do that:

    1- Find the owner's guide for your router. One of the first things you will see in your router's owner's guide are step by step instructions for setting up your network.

    2- Undo everything you did in Windows to setup your network. The best way to set up a local network is to use your router, not to use Windows.

    3- Restart your computer.

    4- Carefully follow the directions in your router's owner's guide to setup your network.

    5- Restart your computer.

    Now you have a network that is completely independent of Windows.

    As I understand it, you haven't changed the drive the system is installed on, correct?

    Send a screenshot of your system information.

    • Press "Windows + R", type msinfo32 and press Enter.

    Maximize that window and use the shortcut "Windows + Shift + S" to take a screenshot.

    Hi David,

    No I didn't clean install windows as that is on my Other SSD already in my PC, and I didn't use a tool to clone the HDD as wanted to only carry a select number of folders and files onto it.

    The Manufacturer of it is NOVOTECH Ltd

    And I cant find model number, presumably because it was custom built I believe.

    Hi James Boland.

    I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

    Did you clean install Windows 10 on the new SSD? Or did you use a tool to clone the HDD?

    What is the manufacturer and model of your computer?
