Looking to solve the same issue as posted here, only on an Asus Expertbook. During the initial setup process, I enabled this thinking it would be beneficial only to immediately see its hindrance while working with multiple windows.

    Hey Luis, I don't believe it is an adaptive brightness feature, as it only happens when switching between open windows while in split-screen mode, where two windows occupy opposite sides of the screen. Adaptive brightness occurs when the brightness in the room changes, causing the screen to adapt.

    To put it more accurately and for better visualization, when two windows are on the screen together, the window that has focus, i.e., the mouse last acted within, is lit up while the rest of the screen is darkened. See below

    Dear yhtomit31,now I was in doubt, is your laptop an HP or an Asus?

    I ask this because some HP laptops have the Focus Mode feature, which makes this dimming function out of focus;

    Try performing a clean boot to see if the behavior still persists;

    1. Press the Windows + R keys, type msconfig and click OK;
    2. In the System Configuration window, click on the services tab;
    3. At the bottom of the screen, check the Hide all Microsoft services box and click Disable all;
    4. Now click on the Programs Startup tab and on Open Task Manager;
    5. When loading the task manager, click on the start tab and disable all non-Microsoft programs (right-click on the program and choose disable), close the Task Manager and click OK on system configuration and restart computer if requested.

    NOTE: This procedure disables all third party services and programs. You can later, if the problem is solved in this way, selectively enable the programs and services that will start with Windows, instead of keeping all disabled. If the problem returns after activating the startup of a specific service or program, the problem is exactly in the startup of this software and it is recommended to remove it.

    Restart the PC and check the behavior;

    See you soon!

    It is an ASUS Expertbook.

    This procedure seems very complicated and possibly does not solve the issue. The issue doesn't seem to be a system configuration problem that would require disabling all third-party services, followed by selectively enabling programs after. Is there no system setting in the Control panel, or similar level, that would solve this?

    Dear yhtomit31,the procedure is very simple, there is an easier way to do it;

    Press together the keys: Ctrl + Shift + Esc to access the task manager;

    Click on start and disable all programs that start with Windows;

    Restart the PC;

    I don't think there is any setting that changes this on Windows;

    Make sure you don't have any software installed on your PC that might have a feature like Focus Mode on HP laptops;

    See you soon!
