Windows 10 update KB5014666, usb printer not detected

Hi, I have a multifunction printer HP Laserjet Pro M1132 MFP.

After installing the KB5014666 update, Windows 10 does not detect the printer, it first installs the scanner device, and I'm not able to install the printer device (or function).

I have tested a couple of computers with this update and the printer does not install, however on a computer without KB5014666, the installation goes fine and both printer and scanner work.

I understand that KB5014666 makes some updates in how usb printers work in Windows 10, what I've noticed is that Win10 installs the scanner taking the USB virtual port impeding the printer install. Even if I remove the scanner device, the virtual USB port is not available until I restart the computer, maybe something to do with this issue.

I have remove and installed the drivers, devices several times in different manners to no avail. Even tried removing the update, but it's not removable.

At this moment I'm left with installing Win 10 again. If someone has another idea...

thank you for writing that KB5014666 caused this mess. I was trying hard to find why the printer (m1132 mfp) with HP LaserJet Full Feature Software and Driver installed on one PC but not another. Yours was the only answer on the whole internet.

You said updates are not removable, but they are! You can uninstall updates:

    • open Settings
    • Update and security>Windows updates
    • ClickAdvanced options
    • Click View your updates History

I uninstalled windows update-KB5014666 and printer installed fine. I checked whether it functioned and there were no issues. Then I tried installing that update again since the printer was already installed but installing the update again made printer stop printing.

After wasting nearly 6 hours, I'm happy that the issue resolved.

I'm glad my post helped someone, but the "whole internet" is probably not aware yet because the update is only out for a week or so, and I'm guessing the problem is limited to specific printers/drivers.

I wasn't able to uninstall the update, probably because by the time I tried, I had already tried restore points and several other solutions and my Windows install got kind of messy.

Ended up reinstalling Windows, avoided the KB5014666 update, it's still only optional, and the printer is working fine.

Already paused updates, in case the problem isn't fixed before it stops being optional. Still have a machine receiving all updates for testing, but don't want to be surprised by this again.

Couple of things. 1. KB5014666 addresses this: IPP over USB support – Microsoft has supported Internet Print Protocol (IPP) for network printers starting in 2018 with the release of Windows 10, version 1809. We are now expanding IPP support to USB printers.

This caused a epic failure on the printer ports, and removing the Local USB001. As a test, I set up a workstation and a HP2055 laserjet and connected it via USB. I verified that the printer was able to print, and verified that USB001 was checked off. Then I released KB5014666, and restarted the workstation. After the workstation was rebooted, I log back in, and confirmed that USB001 was gone, along with nothing checked off in the printer port settings.

I am finding more and more different HP printer models that are connected via USB loosing the correct local port settings due to this cumulative update.

Microsoft why on earth did you do this? This needs to be fixed ASAP with a patch that reverses this screw up!

What does Windows 10 have three different settings for Printers, you have Printer Management, Devices and Printers, and Printers and Scanners. None of which sync correctly when installing a printer.
