"Capped" download speed on wireless connection on the computer

Hello, guys!

So I work with my computer and I need high download and upload speeds.

I moved from my previous house to this new apartment with my fiancee and there is no way to put my gaming/working computer on our bedroom (where the internet cable is at). I can pass the ethernet cable from the router in the bedroom to the living room where my computer is but it just gets too ugly. So I'm just connecting on the internet wireless.

The thing is, I'm connecting to the same network both on computer and on the cellphone. On the cellphone, I get a download speed of 450-500mbps. Upload speed is around 50mbps. Which is awesome, since I pay a 400Mbps connection. If I have my Windows computer connected by cable, I also have the same download and upload speed. But if it connects wireless on the 5Ghz connection (same as the cellphone), it gets a download speed of 170-190mbps. Upload speed remains at 50Mbps, only the download gets "capped" at ~180mbps.

I already tried to reset all internet settings, changed some Windows auto tunneling and other network settings, tried to buy a new USB network adapter (TP Link Archer T4U), but nothing worked. Download speeds are capped at ~180bps. If I just connect it by cable, it gets back to 450-500mpbs.

On the connection properties, it shows the connection speed (receiving/transmission) from 650/650 up to 836/836 mbps. So this is not a signal issue.

Anyone have any idea what may be causing this?

Thanks in advance!

Greg, please just don't go to Bing, search for "slow internet speed windows 10" and post the 10 first websites here, my friend. The suggestions on these websites has nothing to do with my issue.

If you don't know what can cap a download speed on Windows (which is not a signal or connection issue), please leave the question to another expert.

    Thanks for replying, my friend.

Do you really mean the network page you sent me on speedtest?

I just registered there with my company account. Waiting for the verification email.

Not sure if the Mesh system would do something here because my modem is like 50cm from my computer. But it is on another room and there is a wall between them (which makes it just very ugly to pass an ethernet cable from the bedroom to the living room). So WiFi signal or potency is not the issue here. If it was the issue, my cellphone (which gets 450-500mbps) would also be affected. I think.

But thanks for your help my friend. Do you have any other idea?

Hi Lucas. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

    1. Try these fixes for slow internet in Windows 10:

    1. Update your drivers and BIOS/UEFI firmware from PC or motherboard maker's Support Downloads web page, using the full model number, Serial Number or Dell Service Tag on sticker. Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button. Make sure you have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.

Updating drivers from the Device Manager or Windows Update is rarely enough. The most basic thing we need to learn to maintain a PC is keep the latest manufacturer's drivers installed from their Support Downloads web page.

    1. Go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 17 to test a new Local Admin account. Then if necessary continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

    1. If nothing else works then do a Repair Install, by installing Media Creation Tool, open tool and choose to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows while keeping files, programs and most settings in place, is the most stable method to advance to the latest version, and solves most problems. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

I hope this helps. Based on what you report back I can answer any questions and may have other steps to perform.

On the PC run this speed test https://www.speedtest.net/network

You may need to use a network Mesh system (That's what I have used )
