Problems with file explorer and Minecraft

Yesterday (June 3rd), my pc screen flashed and I got a notification saying something like "There was a problem with your default browser, so we reset it to Microsoft Edge". After that I went into default apps and set my default browser back to Chrome. Then I went into file explorer and the "Expand Ribbon" arrow has disappeared (Fig.1) and I can't get it back. Also whenever I try to open Minecraft java edition, it redirects me to the Microsoft store page for gaming services, but it won't let me install it, so I uninstalled Minecraft and re-downloaded the launcher from the official website. However when I run the installer, I get the error message "0xUnknownAppInstall". I have install apps from anywhere enabled, but I still get the error. And when I try to install it from Microsoft store, I click on install but it won't let me (Fig.2). Please help, as this is infuriating.

    Hi BravoLima2k4 -

I'm Jerico T., I understand that you're having some issues right now and I'd be more than happy to help you today.

Please try to run System File Checker.

-This process will perform scan for any corrupted system files or integrity violation and will attempt to repair it along with the Windows Image.

    1. Open command prompt (Run as administrator)
    2. Type each command below and wait until scan is completed.

    sfc /scannow

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Quick note: Please be patient, it's expected to see the process stuck at 20 or 40 percent. After a few minutes, the process will complete successfully.

    1. Close the command prompt, restart your computer.

Please let me know how it goes.

    Regards,

    Jerico T.

    Hi Jerico,

I've been able to solve both of these problems by resetting my laptop. A while ago my computer was infected with a worm that site my passwords, and I think this may have just been the remnants of it. But thanks for your help anyway. By the way do you know how I can make a restore point? best wishes,

    Hi BravoLima2k4 -

Thank you for your response. I see, then please try to perform system restore.

    System Restore

    • System restore is where it will take your computer settings back to an earlier point in time where everything is working fine.
    1. Open the run box by pressing Windows Key + R and type rstrui.exe then press enter.
    2. System restore windows will open. Normally it will suggest a restore point(Sometimes it doesn't), if it does, select the 2nd option to select more restore points.
    3. Select your desired restore point date and time.
    4. Once selected, hit next and finish.

Windows will restart itself to start system restore. System restore might take some time to complete and it is very important that system restore must not be interrupted during restore process as it might damaged the operating system. System restore will take at least 20 minutes or more depending on the content of the computer and the changes on the settings that was done prior to the date selected. System restore will also removed application , updates and drivers installed prior to the date selected.

    DISCLAIMER:

System Restore is a recovery tool for Windows that allows you to reverse certain kinds of changes made to the operating system. System Restore is used to return important Windows files and settings—like drivers, registry keys, system files, installed programs, and more—back to previous versions and settings. Being said all applications and changes made prior to the date selected will be removed and needs to be re-installed if its needed.

    Regards.

    Jerico T.

Hi Jerico, all of the above commands succeeded except the last one (DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth). It says "The source files could not be found.", And I got the error code "0x800f081f". Please advise me as what to do next.

    Thanks in advance,

    Ben
